MDV Featured Article - MDV League: Texen Hold'em Circuit. - by Chris Newton - posted 9/16/08 - discuss here

You've gotta know when to Hold'em, know when to Fold'em.
Know when to walk away, know when to run.
You never count your money, while sitting at the table.
There'll be time enough for counting, when the dealin's done.

How many of you were singing the song in the intro blurb? Don't feel silly if you don't know the song, as it is pretty old now, but also don't feel silly because you were, as it is a song that defines an entire genre and generation of people.

Gambling has made a few people and broken a million million people. But hey, who doesn't like giving it a shot when it could mean you become filthy stinking rich for doing nothing?

Enter the Texen Hold'em Circuit of the MDV League.

A Texen is a hybrid word that I made up in order to get attention. It sounds like Texas and it sounds like Texan. It is a play off of the popular poker game called Texas Hold'em, and we are sort of using it in that fashion.

So where did I get Texen from? magicdeckvorTEX tokEN. Silly eh? I prefer to call my thinking other things than "silly", like "creative genius" for example. But let's get back to the main item here.

A Texen is a unit of currency that has been adopted by the MDV League TO Committee. I like to imagine one Texen is one poker chip. The reason for a Texen is to make a reason to join all of the MDV Tournaments together. The number of possible tournaments will continue to go up, but giving you a reason to be involved is something that we constantly try to keep at a premium. In this circuit, for example, your objective is to get as many Texens as possible. We will hold an entire season in which you will know the start date and the finish date. Once the finish date occurs, your time is up and the Texen count is tallied. The person(s) with the most Texens at that time will be declared the winner of the circuit season. At which point the coffers are cleared and another season begins with everyone starting at 100 Texens again.

There are several ways to acquire Texens:

You can enter a Payout Tournament.
A Payout Tournament will be free to enter and will offer prizes to all the players who enter. The prize payout will utilize the Inverse Scoring System (ISS) (See this page for details on the ISS.) of number of players

You can enter a traditional tournament with a Texen requisite.
These tournaments will require an entry fee to enter into the tournament, and will offer Texen prizes to the top 'X' places.

You can take them from people!!
You can offer Texen Challanges to players who have Texens in an ante style match. Both players will sign a paper, contractually agreeing on the amount to be wagered, and will send this document to a league official prior to the match. They will then play out the match and then fill out a document declaring the winner and loser of the match plus the Texen amount exchanged and submit that form to the same official who will then adjust your Texen count.

Please note that you are not forced to play in the Texen Hold'em Circuit. There are plenty of games to be played that do not require Texens. As a matter of fact, there will be a lot of events that do not involve Texens. An item to point out here is that there will be contests that do require a Texen entry fee. If you do not want to participate in the Texen competition, you will not be able to enter these tournaments. Also, if you do not have enough Texens to enter an event, you can not enter the event (self explanatory). You must find a way to get enough Texens to pay for your entry fee in order to get into these events.

Lastly, I have further ideas for Texens, but I have not discussed and gotten the majority approval from the TO Committee yet. It should be known that there are further plans in the making for the use of Texens. You should also know that a Texen has no monetary value outside of the forums and can not be used to purchase things in the MDV Bazaar.

When other uses for Texens become available, you will be notified. Until then, have a great time taking them from your friends cold, dead hands.
