WARNING: This page may take a while to load... MDV’s first theme week was Druid Week. I think that week worked out reasonably well. Now we are on Avatar Week. And thus far, things are working out great! At least two articles a day and maybe even an extra feature during the same day! Expect new things to be posted through the end of Sunday. Don't forget to enter the Scion-tologist deck building contest, enter the Avatar Week Vanguard Tournament, participate in the Art Pageant to come and read all of the articles and comment on them! However, despite all of this, let me be honest for a moment. I was initially disappointed to see Avatars win the poll I posted earlier this year – the poll that would decide the fate of this week. I never expected Avatars to win. Let's take a look at the results from the poll I'm refering to below:
As you can see Avatars won by a big slide followed by Lands, Elementals, Insects and then Morph. It would seem that Illusions and Cantrips barely had a chance. Deep down, I was hoping for Lands or Cantrips to win. I think Lands could have been such an awesome week and Cantrips more interesting… but I digress. Who would of guessed that it was me that opted to include Avatars in the original poll list. What was I thinking? However, I now think it worked out for the better. While there are a minimal number of Avatars to work with, there are more than just Avatar cards. That is, there is more than one definition for Avatar (at least as it relates to Magic Deck Vortex). To be more precise, there are three definitions pertinent here for an Avatar:
Over the course of this week, you will see articles for most if not all of the Avatar cards in Magic and that includes the Vanguard Avatars. However, how does one make an article for the graphical images we use to represent ourselves in forums on the Internet? That’s where I come in. I thought it would be fun to make a quick article/feature on MDV where I feature some cool avatars on the web. Again, I’m referring to the third definition of Avatar. So here I go! Time Spiral Avatars!!! Like some of the Time Spiral art we've seen? I know I do. Below are some avatars I made using artwork from the new set. What better way to start off this Avatar feature than with these:
Variations of the above avatars have been seen floating around the net... however, these are all unique. I made them. Note: The Time Spiral Visual Spoiler will be updated as soon as I get a break from posting Avatar Week stuff. Moving along... Cool Avatars from the MDV Forum! See if you can guess who these belong to! NOTE: I highly discourage you to use these as your own as they are already being used to represent someone on a forum. I will show some avatars that you can pick from later that are most likely not all being used... although, maybe they are. However, don't use the following ones!!! You can always make these avatars your own my adding silly text to them... or animating them if you have the power to do that.
You'll notice I take a liking to animated one. Unless, of course, they are from art I made. Cool Avatars from MTGS! Unfortunately, I didn't have time to go through ALL of the forum avatars over there.. as they have a gazillion members. But, if you frequent MTGS's forums at all, you may recognize some of the following:
NOTE: See note above about the MDV avatars... Cool Celixia Avatars!!! (Lots of 'em) These are all non-animating avatars I made using artwork from the fictional set of Magic cards called "Celixia". I've seen a few people use them here and there... but these aren't Magic art avatars... so I understand if you don't want to use them.
I deleted a few of the ones that have been used or that are already used from the above listing. Reserved for ... Avatars. This section is reserved for any additional avatars that I may post by the end of the week. Expect there to be at least a few more. *grin* Don't like these Avatars? Well, then. Make your own! Or better yet, let someone else make it for you. Check out one of the many Graphic Shops on MDV in the forum where users make you signature banners and/or avatar icons for you. And most don't even charge a fee. (Actually, I don't think any of them charge a fee). Here are some links: If that doesn't work out for you, you could always make your own using any GIF maker or JPG editor. Well, that's all for my quick venture into forum avatar images. I may have more of these in the future including contests, or whatever. What ever you do, be sure to identify yourself with an Avatar in at least the Magic Deck Vortex forums. It's just better that way. Oh, and keep checking back this week for new and exciting content. Thanks for visiting Magic Deck Vortex! John Streetz You can discuss this article in the MDV forums here.
