Hey guys its been a while. Sorry for the delay, but school is higher on my priorities. This article will focus on a nice little recursion buddy that everybody loves: Hell’s Caretaker. Our journey to Hell will be rather nice, since I am on good terms with the Caretaker. We’re…. como se dice…. 'beer' buddies?
The Hell’s Caretaker Vanguard card is very easy to abuse. At the cost of one creature and 3 mana, you can get any creature from your graveyard! Cards that utilize come into play and leaves play effects are very useful with the Caretaker. Two that stand out are Golgari Germination, from the new Ravnica set, and one that is used in this next deck: Genesis Chamber. Because it makes creatures when a creature comes into play, you can sac the tokens to empty your graveyard! Let's meet this bad boy!
Oh wait... we're here. And there is the Caretaker. Don't mind my conversing with him over the next few paragraphs. He usually has cool/funny things to say, so I don't think you'll mind. ... ... Yo, dude. How's the wife and kids? "Good, good, and how are yours?"
"Oh, that's right, I killed them already!"
Oh, man, you always crack me up. So anyway, I was working on an article for Magic Deck Vortex and... "Is that the evil, diabolic plane next to my plane that constantly tries to take my sheep? You know, those are the best thing for a sacrifice? There's nothing better than evil sheep!!! You know I once animated a dead Ovinomancer.. and boy was that fun!" Uh. OK. As I was saying, I came down here to get some ideas for my article on Magic Deck Vortex, and.... "You gettin' paid?" None of your business. I've got some ideas, so you wanna play over a silver bullet? "Sure, slide me over those awesome pieces of cardboard."
"Soooo, this a basic recursion deck, eh?" Ya, it is. It's got some nice tricks, like your ability with Sundering Titan and Duplicant to annihilate there creature base and land base. Once your lands are gone, you can use Braids and Reya to keep up the removal. I included the Bringer of the Blue Dawn to help get through the deck. The Hymns of Tour... "Ooooh.... Tourach! He was a blast. There was this time when this little Leitbur wanna-be came strolling along. Tourach starting chanting this little, uh... ditty... uh... that in itself was hysterical. And then the scrawny knight just kind of fell over. That's when I had my zombie Ovinomancer turn the fallen creature into a sheep..." So as I was saying, the Hymns to Tourach can either disrupt your opponent's hand, or if you have a hand full of crits, you can send them to your grave. Exhume is for the early reanimation, allowing a first turn Akroma with Ritual, Imp, and Exhume. Symbiotic Wurm also works well given it's leave play ability. A bunch of insect tokens only enhanced your ability to maximize on creature recursion. "Nice. Oooh, Akroma, now that's a hottie for you.. and with some spunk too!"
This deck could use some more little crits, like what I have in this next deck. "Aaaah, I see. You made this one, too? Because, if you did, I want to know where the Thrulls are? Thrulls make the best door stop and if you step on them hard enough, they make the funniest squeaking noise you've ever heard. Kind of like a whoopee cushion. Wow! I love squishy noises." Nah, this one's comin' straight at ya from my man Lionden_56. Get acquainted with Hell's Spirit Manipulation!
Here's Lionden's description: This is somewhat of a basic reanimator type deck. Use Buried Alive to get Iname into your graveyard, then get a bile urchin or zubera to drop to the Avatar. This lets you play Iname's ability to put spirits in your graveyard, then get Kagemaro and your soulshifters into your graveyard. Once there, go nuts. Don't be afraid to lose a spirit, as Pus Kami soulshifts for 6, so you always net an additional creature if you sac him.
Eh-hemmm. Are you done talking about sheep? Geez, I thought I told you last time that joke is just old. I don't care if you really like sheep, but can you stop talking about them. ... "Aw..." ... "OK." ... So yeah, Shirei lets you reanimate your Bile Urchins, so you can have a somewhat-infinite loop of reanimation. Finally, Hideous Laughter lets you sweep the board if you get off to a slow start. But, given that there are 4 Cabal Coffers in the deck, that shouldn't happen to often. "Nice, dude, can I have another silver bullet?" Ya, but I gotta go. Next time, remember to get your cooler working.. In the meantime, duty calls, and school awaits. "Sucks to be you." Peace man. (yelling) "And remember to throw in some Thrulls next time!" (now bellowing) "AND SHEEP TOO!" Join me next time for the Results from the "Dark Pools" Contest! If you have questions about vanguard, or wanna give me an idea for a deck (like Lionden did) then email me at panda.yususke@gmail.com. Any other comments can be posted on the forums here. It's good to be back! You can discuss this article in the MDV forums here. Most Popular
