MDV Featured Article - Exit 267... Towards Ravnica: Ravnica, the Final Destination. - by FIRE REIGN 2- posted 9/4/05 - discuss here

Wow! I regret not writing an article last week, on account of lack of information. Mainly because this week has exploded with new rumors and confirmed cards in the Ravnica Set. MTGSalvation has literally gone nuts with rumors flooding the Mill. And it’s getting pretty hard to keep track of all this information.

But I’m up to the challenge. This is most likely going to my biggest article up to this point. So let’s get straight to it. There’s no time for small talk in this article.

1.) Next week will be preview week over at magicthegathering.com. They were able to get the banner for that week, and it shows a few artworks. Here it is…

2.) The names of the ten guilds have been confirmed. Also, the people over at MTGS have pretty much confirmed which sets the will be in.

Ravnica: City of Guilds
B/U – House Dimir
B/G – The Golgari
G/W – Selesyna Conclave
R/W – Boros Legion

Guildpact
R/G – Gruul Clans
U/R – The Izzet
B/W – Orzhov Syndicate

Dissension
U/W – Azorius Senate
R/B – Cult of Rakdos
U/G – The Simic

Here is a chart produced by the people over at MTGS to show the relations between the sets, the guilds, the logos, and the colors.

3.) Magicthegathering.com has updated their Ravnica set page. It is now enhanced with things like the Orb of Insight, along with the preview trailer, and backgrounds on all four guilds that will be in Ravnica. Check it out.

4.) Some of the land arts for Ravnica have recently been shown on Magic Arcana. Then MTGS moved the pictures over to their site. Here are the artworks that have been shown.

Forest

Mountain and Swamp

Island and Plains

5.) Two of the theme decks in Ravnica, Golgari Deathcreep and Dimir Intrigues, have been shown on MTGS. Here are those decks:

6.) Recently, some card scans have made their way into the Rumor Mill over at MTGS. Some of these include …

Carven Caryatid

Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran

Selesnya Guildmage

Guardian of Vitu-Ghazi

7.) Both finished artworks and concept artworks that are supposedly in Ravnica have been sent to urzassedatives, one of the moderators at MTGS. Recently, he posted these artworks in the Rumor Mill. Here are those artworks…

This artwork has the codename of Rakdos Undercity, found in the URL address.

This artwork has the codename of Selesyna Druid, found in the original URL address.

8.) Once people got ahold of the Orb of Insight, they couldn’t let go. These are some of the most common results found during the “Orb Quest” that is currently going on over at MTGS.

Here is a compilation of known Orb info.

Using the Orb of Insight, the number of of spells with certain abilities/creature types, ect... in Ravnica can be found(If you're careful).
OK, here we go:

Using the word "don't"(In temple garden) yeilds 5 results, so the 4/3/3 dual lands theory is confirmed(again). Moving right along.

Search for "Hunted" results in 12 hits; since hunted appears 2 times per card for the token effect(a few might have the name three times) and the troll we know of has "hunted" 3 times on it, that means that there are about 5 hunted creature spells, one for each color.

Interesting Tidbids
'life" appears 33 times;
"creature" appears 374 times!
"time" appears 4 times
"shadow" appears 4 times
"staff" appears 2 times

9.) The promotional T-Shirt is for people that choose to order a display box of booster packs from www.intrafin.be. Note: This T-shirt is only valid with Pre-Orders.

10.) Beckett Magazine is featuring a 2-page “Fold-Out Poster” of Ravnica. This features some of the artwork of the guild’s main members. Also, it shows one of the giants that were fighting in the preview of Ravnica’s trailer (talked about in 3).

11.) The Ravnica painlands have been confirmed to have these names. For the G/W combination, Temple Garden. U/B and the Dimir get Watery Grave. The Golgari’s color combination, G/B, is complemented by Overgrown Tomb. And finally, the Legion’s R/W holds onto Sacred Foundry. Note: These are not the guild lands.

12.) Finally, the part that people like the most. To see what cards are actually in the Ravnica set. So they can go start planning on their own “Tech Deck” for post-rotation. Well, R_E has been doing a good job taking care of this list; making sure that no fakes get into it. Take it away, Mr. Streetz.

Editor's Note: The MDV Visual Spoiler (Text Spoiler) has been updated to include all 161 cards we know/ are rumored for the Ravnica set.. so you can find that here.

Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed this article. I wanted to sum up everything we’ve seen before preview week starts. Make sure to check it out on magicthegathering.com, starting Monday, September 5.

I wanted to get straight to the point in this article, so I didn’t really focus so much on the introduction, but more on the actual facts. Hopefully, we can get some kind of knowledge of what to expect through these rumors. Well, I completed my challenge, and now I think it’s time to rest until next week. I’ll probably talk about the previews that we start seeing on the mtg.com site, while still providing information from the finds over at MTGS.

Well, it’s been fun writing this article. And again, I hope you’ve enjoyed it. Thanks to John Streetz and the people here at magicdeckvortex.com, along with R_E and his staff over at MTGS. Make sure to keep you eyes peeled for anything suspicious, and be sure to inform one of these sites, if in fact, you do find something new about Ravnica (www.magicdeckvortex.com, www.starcitygames.com, www.magicthegathering.com, www.rancoredelf.com, and www.mtgsalvation.com.)
