It was a clear spring morning. The fog lazily blanketed the carpet valley below the ridge where Trenif had set up camp the night before. The sun had just began to peek over the mountainous horizon when Renda called Trenif from his slumber.
"Trenif, it's time to eat. Come on now, we've got a ways to go today. If we hurry we may make it into the city today. Come on." Renda was excited about today and was ready to get into the city. It has been months since her last visit to Dallus and this time she came prepared. The last time they came she had been haggling with a shopkeep for a unique broach she liked. She almost had him down to where she wanted but he wouldn't come down any further and she didn't have enough gold or a set of candle sticks which he would have traded for.
"Just a few more minutes Renda. After yesterday I need as much rest as I can get. 30 koggins is a good strech to go in one day." And it was. The day before they pressed as hard as they could to make it to the valley before nightfall which they barely did. It wasn't important that they make it before nightfall as a goal as so much as they made it there for their own safety. In this part of the country, in the wilds, there's creatures and beasts that come out at night that can swallow a man whole and still have room for the pack-animal for dessert.
"That's what you said 5 minutes ago. Come on slumber-bunny, get up!" And with this she threw a night crawler over toward him and it landed on the side of his face.
"Doh! Renda!" Trenif sits up quickly and looks for what it was Renda threw at him.
"It's not like you didn't have a heads-up!" Renda replied ready for a chase if Trenif started.
"That's alright it'll come around..." Trenif said as he wiped dirt off the side of his face and tossed the worm off his sleeping mat.
"So, when do you think we'll make it to Dallus? Should be before dusk, don't you think?" asked Renda.
Now up and with breakfast in hand Trenif replied around a piece of bread in his mouth, "...It should be. We knocked out a majority of our trip yesterday. With no problems we should be there by this afternoon."
"Good! I hope we arrive before the shops close for the evening. There's a broach I almost had the last time we were here and this time, it's mine!"
"That broach? You're still on about that broach? What's so unique about it that makes you want it so much?" Trenif asked while working on the sausage on his plate.
"I think it's beautiful and want it! It's one of a kind, like me, and I think we should be a pair of one of's."
