Type 2 Power 9

I know this has been done before, but oh well.

What do you think would be in a type 2 power 9? (as of ravnica?) I'm thinking:

Birds of Paradise
Glimpse the Unthinkable
Hypnotic Specter
Rav Dual Lands (They get one slot)
Pain Lands (They get one slot as well)
Umezawa's Jitte
Caranial Extraction
Verdant Force
???

I'd have to say the the dual lands and painlands are more like the power nine of type two than any creature card. Sure, it's not sexy, but consistancy wins games.

good idea. A type two power 9 would never include these:

Verdant Force
Hypnotic Specter
Pithing Needle


The top two are creatures, which happens like never, with a few exceptions(BoP) and if needle is so good, everyone will stop playing activated abilites, and needle will be kicked out and banned to the 5 $ area(i hope so, i need four :()
Duals seem unlikely to be considered the best cards in a format too.

pithings popularity is based on the meta-game in where you live. over here it is no that popular at all. and is only sided if used.

hypnotic specter is still very, very powerful...but it's not a threat in standard anymore with the lack of a dark rit

there is no power nine anymore granted there are powerful cards but those nine cards became the power nine because wotc didn,t realize how powerful they would become... but if you wanted to make a grouping of a "power 9" for today i would add ravager/disciple of the vault

You guys are looking at Power Nine the wrong way. The top9 cards DON'T have to be rare. Infact, in many senses Sakura-Tribe Elder is #1 because its used in so many decks.

Heres my approx p9 list

1 - Sakura-Tribe Elder
2 - Sensei's Divining Top
3 - Painlands (Painland > Pickland IMO)
4 - Birds o' Paradise
5 - Umezawa's Jitte
6 - Cranial Extraction
7 - Mana Leak
8 - Condescend
9 - Arc-Slogger

It should have been. Looking at the old T2 decklists, anydeck with even a remote spec of blue had 4 Counterspell.

Besides, mana leak was used ALOT since counterspell left.

Besides again, could you really think of anything else?

I think rarity has to come into play on this... a great deal of the power nine's mystique is also carried by it's price tag. You see Sol Rings played alongside power all the time... but because Sol Ring was uncommon and widely available, it has no mystique.

I don't think any "P9" list we can make today can possibly even come close to doing justice to the originals. The P9 were extremely powerful. One of the few worthy cards would be Eternal Witness.

I don't think Divining Top quite fits...

Maybe if the determining factor was popularity (amount of play), STE and BOP would be in.

Hmm. Maybe the topic name should be changed. There's a certain mystique that exists with the term "power 9" . The thread would likely get more useful comments on the topic if it were "Top 10 type 2 cards or something similar.
