It's time to revive "Original Artwork"

This is definitely one of my personal favourites...
I know it has nothing to do with Fantasy Art, but I hope you enjoy anyways...

I can't appreciate anything else than bloodshed and the purity of Phyrexia - sorry.

Looking good as always, I would prefer a full frontal-view of the paper instead - this is skewing the perspectives a bit. Also, I think this forum is open for much anything art-related. So I see no reason for excusing non-Fantasy art.

And in the banner thingy there is another big picture - have we seen that before? If not, why is it no available in big version?

ben
02-23-2007, 12:52 PM
No, I never posted it

There is, however, a reason for that. It is the same reason that made me put another picture above certain parts of her body in the picture above ;)

Bah, I see naked women every friday - who would care? It is an excellent way to learn anatomy (recommended to all aspiring artists) and I think you should show it.

That's probably because PG-13 =/= Full Frontal Nudity. Sorry Yawg, but as a mod I can't allow it.

Yawgmoth
02-23-2007, 03:15 PM
Well, that is weird... Were I come from we kind of separate nudity from pornography (which I understand is untolerated in Pg-13-environment) - but as an artist I say it is almost needed for people to draw nude models (that's why we have like six hours of that every friday.) And I see no reason for nude art to be anymore offensive than your earlier avatars/banners - but if still, the use of spoiler-boxes then?

Although this isn't a forum mainly for art, so I guess I understand. But I still find pg-13 stupid.

we had a big debate about that (mature themed images) when me, tekk and Scion all had more than mature enough avi/banners, so someone naturally complained, we debated about freedom of expression stuff like that, but we decided (at least, i think we did.) that having obscene or mature things in MDV would limit the amount of people that would join, as they would see it negatively (eh, vaires from country to country.). And those that did might be joining only to sharing in the obscene avi/banner thing and all hell would break loose. How unfortunate.

If you truly want to see the full image, why not ask Ben to send a link via MSN? or ~?

Tekkactus

You have me to thank for even having that much. When I joined, swearing in general was completely prohibited, but I fought the good fight and pulled through, with a little help from City of Ass, Hell's Caretaker, and Screams of the Damned.

The general rule is if it doesn't fly on a card, it's a no go here.

ben

That's not how I intended to revive "Original Art", although I must admit that it worked :D . This got more posts in a few hours than any other thread here in the last two months.

My point of view is that I don't think that the picture is pornographical, but I respect the fact that a lot of younger users are in this forum. So don't worry, I will not insult anybody by posting it.

Still, rules are bad... I suggest that nudity should be allowed here - maybe with warnings or spoiler-box-thingies for those who can't handle the nudity. Since this is an art-section, we should allow the most popular subject of all: the human body.

I guess this isn't the right place to discuss this, so I will investigate in what would be the most proper place for the discussion of this.

Sorry Ben.

Chrome_Kaldra
02-23-2007, 07:07 PM
and that place would be?

Yawgmoth
02-23-2007, 07:12 PM
Not Ben's thread, and maybe the place were the rulers of this place live.

wow thats a real shame that the rules are so tight against frontal nudity.....cmon people, all it is is the human body, not a purpose for self pleasure in a sexual way, just artwork....we should be able to respect his art imrpovements in anatomy, i wish i could do it that well.....but its not my choice ...and i can see where the high order guys are comin from but i do disagree with it anyways.....ben im sorry for this dispute and am on your side...keep drawing and il finally PM some of my stuff on the march break...salute to you,

Ps---wow your volume 4 is great! you are constantly improving ! so am I

very nice, but the guy's face is too large? well, the nose and mouth is imho.

ben
03-04-2007, 12:03 PM
Hmm, it is large, I also saw that. But given the height of his body it might still be ok

Better?

That's a lot nicer, I think.

The tree in the back seems almost like an afterthought. How is the light coming into the image? Would that tree be darker, or lighter than the trees by the king?

ben
03-08-2007, 02:12 PM
Thanks for the comment.

Actually I made the tree that light so it goes to the background and doesn't compete with the throne. By doing that i tried to get a little more depth and have a strong focus on the king himself, as the whole composition (also the depth of details) puts focus on him.

The light comes from the upper left corner, but it's true that this is not clear for the background. But I don't really know how to make it different. Suggestions? (I don't think, however, that I'm going to take the risk and change it, as I'm quite satisfied with the way it turned out, but your opinion is welcome anyways)

still doing very nice work Ben, on the King and the thrown it seems he doesn't have elbows and the bending of his arms look a little unnatural.

Chrome_Kaldra

the nose of the new girl is dragged down too much (the side parts...) and the lips are too far from the nose. The lip is supposed to be quite close to the nose, only an eye height in between.

ben
03-21-2007, 04:24 PM
Uh oh, Mr Zeora and FKIH are very strict with me again ;)

I will take your comments into consideration for my next drawings.

ben
03-22-2007, 03:45 PM
This is my interpretation of FKIH's creation (of course with his permission)
If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out his thread here in the original artwork section.

the noses didn't get better since my last try ;)

Chrome_Kaldra

still good, even with the funny noses! :)

I like what you did to my character, it definately has the mysterious look to it, which is what i was intending. A very good representation of her! Feel free to draw her however many times u want, you've earned that freedom!

but it seems like you don't like to erase stuff...cuz you don't tend to fix your problems...like my freind chris, he'll draw something, in pencil, but he never fixes what he knows is wrong, and i tell him he should, just like....you! :D...if that's the case...:paranoid:

anyways, gotta do some chores now....then study for math....

Yawgmoth
03-27-2007, 06:15 PM
Important note: The eraser should never be used, maybe in emergencies - but never to "fix" mistakes. It is better to just add a correct line or just continue.
At least in my opinion.

Chrome_Kaldra
03-27-2007, 07:59 PM
Yeah, but if you draw an arm too long or something, in the rudimentary stages, shouldn't you erase it and redraw that arm?

if you just redraw the correct line over the bad one, you'll create clutter. at least, in my opinion. :)

Oh my, oh my......apart from not diving into Kaldra's and whomever's conversation, I'll just mention that Ben seems to have enough time do draw/do sketches but no certain task. This means that I must'Ve forgotton to send him a new list of possible things to draw. Gotta change that quickly...

nice work Ben...you're definatley good.
i like your dragon heads.
as for your rendering of FK's character...it's nice but it seems a lil off...
the pose seems to give her the feeling of a limp...like shes got a handicapped leg or something....i think its mostly the placement of her left hand/arm.
other than that ...good job.
for the elf king...his right arm needs a bit of work on the foreshortening..it seems to give the impression of almost bending the wrong way to me.
and the trees could take a bit of detail...(maybe some knots in the bark)
also his chest looks a lil odd.
still very good work ben.

FK the point is never start drawing in a dark tone...always start light and whistfull so that you can get darker as the drawing progresses and basically only erase at the end...once you know for a fact that you are happy with the form. the light lines you made in the beginning can easily be wiped away without hurting the darker areas to much.(at least this is my opinion)
also i agree with yawg ...if you leave the "mistake" there...then you can use it as a guide for the placement of the new, "proper" line.
i almost never use an eraser...and a lot of the time i just draw in ink.

ben
03-29-2007, 04:23 PM
I also dont like the pose of the girl, but it could be worse

As for the king. There will never be a picture to be completely satisfied with. I do, however, agree on the points you mentioned.

You wrote you make ink drawings scion. Show some plz.

Ben, i just stumbled upon your work after some prompting by MZ (I don't do much art, though I like looking at it), and I think it owns!!!! Dude, you should like open a studio and make art for a living (if you're not already).

Seriously man, best I've seen in freaking ages!!!!

ben
05-04-2007, 01:29 PM
Uh, oh thats like the best compliment I got in freaking ages. Well, I don't have an art studio, but I'm studying landscape architecture, so part of my daily work actually is drawing.
But seriosly, there are better ones than me. I'm only good when it comes to pencil. There are so many people that do such drawings on a more professional level and I only make this as a hobby when I find the time.
