I read a topic on mtgsalvation about the best trick to lose a game in style. It got me thinking, maybe some shortof format where the point is to lose the game before your opponent. If you win the game, you actually lose the game you're playing. Offcourse, some cards would have to be banned, and i don't know how this idea will really turn out, but it might be fun. Offcourse, Mana burn wouldn't count if you play like this. Cards i think should get banned then:
Spoils of the Vault
Demonic Consultation
Transcendence
Leveler
Necropotence
Yawgmoth's Bargain
Hermit Druid
Oath of Druids
Lich
Nefarious Lich
Final Fortune
Forbidden Crypt
Phage the Untouchable
Warrior's Oath
Last Chance
Plunge into Darkness
Fire Covenant
Donate
Hatred
Minion of the Wastes
Necrologia
Phyrexian Processor
Seeker of Skybreak
Channel
Ethereal Champion
Lim-Dűl's Vault
Mischievous Poltergeist
Spatial Binding
Wall of Blood
(Perhaps) Kuro Pitlord
Large list eh
Well, it's just an idea. There might be more cards that should get banned.

I don't know if this would be much fun.
One could just mana burn themselves first.

Streetz, he said mana burn doesn't count.
This format would definately get some creativity points. I personally go Platinum angel + donate, then Blaze myself for as much damage as possible.

Oh.
Um.
I would play a deck with all lightning bolts then and a few mountains.
well.. that's not legal either.
Umm. Black Suicide is an easy way to go.
EDIT: WHAT!!! No Phrexian Processor????

anything that lets you pay life in this format is broken.
I like the idea, but it may be too hard to get rid of all cards that would be broken in this format. Most good cards are made to hurt.

Yeah, nice idea, but far too many cards that let you pay life for something are now officially broken...
Hrm... WoTC coudl do it, because they can have their people get payed to srot out what's banned. :P
But seriously, it's creative, and I'd thought of the same thing with other TCGs and this one before, there's just too many cards that would be broken to take into account, I say...
Now, if you build a set/block around losing and you can only use that set/block, that might work. :D

Well yes, but your opponent can have some wicked combo deck(like Seeker of Skybreak + Mesmeric Orb, which is too easy, that's why i banned the seeker). And no phyrexian processor seems quite logic to me.(4th turn instant lose/win)

Ban the orb, not the elf. The elf is replacable.

1. If they have a creature: swamp, Dark Ritual, Unspeakable Symbol, give creature +7/7.
2. If not: Dark Rit, Blood Celebrant, Spatial Binding.
edit **Spatial Binding was banned*** edit
Of course, why go throught the trouble....
Swamp, Dark Rit and Blood Celebrant will do the job just as well.
Even without the Dark Ritual, Blood Celebrant can kill you on turn two.

Not everything is banned, only the cards that let you win too easily, like Necropotence, Wall of Blood, Hermit Druid, Demonic Consultation, Spoils of the Vault.
You can play RDW on yourself and stuff, there are suck cards that will get better this way.

Streetz is still right... Black Suicide is still the easiest and quickest way to do this.

hhmmm i would make a U/B deck and play alot of small mana costing creatures then play vile consumption. that would work right?
what about that common creature i think it says when ~ comes into play you lose 3 life. it's a black snake or serpent creature. or manabarb yourself to death. hhhmmm...gain life and false cure yourself?
lol interesting i like this ideal.

Probably not, considering that a simple 1 drop black creature can kill you second turn unassisted, or first turn with just a little help.

With Biorhythm you play it first turn and your dead.

If you are referring to the ruling of you can't spend more life than you have, it does. You can go down to 0, just not past it. So if you have 3 life, you can't add like 10 mana to your mana pool...
If you aren't, please specify...

UNRELATED OBSERVATION: hey, cool, i'm a mage.
RELATED OBSERVATION: As stated before, anything that lets you pay life is broken. There are too many cards to ban.

alright, lots of cards have to be banned, but I'm just asking, if there is an argueable banlist, would this be fun to play?
BTW, biorhytm might get banned this way too. And it's stated in the first post that you can't mana burn yourself.
