To sign up to host, you must have two complete games and one in progress, minimum. There will be no exceptions. Post which games you've played in when you're signing up.

All hosts should be prepared to host at any time when their name is in the top one or two of a list. When it is a host's turn to make their game, they will be PMed. If they are not ready, or have a conflict, they will be skipped and removed from the list.

Also, I would like to work with someone (perhaps you EM) and I would like for that person to review my set-up and see if it would be good. I already have it all typed up and everything so if you would like to see it, please let me know.

Well. Its like this. There are very few characters of import in Death Note. There's a main baddie, 2-3 cop and a the rest are mostly third party. So its a lot easier to figure what kinda roles are present. However, if you are keen (and I know you are) wait about 8-9 months than host the game. By then people would've forgotten what was written here.

It's a really good thing for Mods to keep notes about their game. Night and day activities/abilities help show jsut which powerroles helped, which were useless, and which were overpowered.

Keeping track of votecounts and end of day stuff can help determin if the affiliation ranks were well numbered. Such as a game with 10 town and 3 mafia is over in 4 days witha town win. Perhaps adding an Sk making it 9/3/1 would be better.

I once saw a Death Note mafia game. It was so crappy I'd really like to see an actually good one to make up for it. The only interesting role in it was of Misa's. She could halven the necessary number of votes to lynch her to gain the shinigami eyes (know every other player's role), but nothing was ever advertised. So supposedly, most people would simply believe the player was making stuff up. (That didn't happen though, and town won. Which was another weird thing in the game - towns were humans and the mafia were the shinigamis. o.O Wha??)

Look at the voting for MDV Idol 3, if we only get 13 votes, and minus the fact that most if not all were from the Finalists themselves, we can see few really care enough to do so.
Regarding this, I want to say I was a finnalist and I didn't vote. Besides, MDV Idol's final voting may have only gotten 13 votes, but the group voting ranged between 29 and 35 votes. So my guess is that it wasn't people caring, it was the weird way people were supposed to vote. (In the article page said to PM Tynion, but in the forum the link was to send an email to him. And apparently, lots of votes got lost in between or something, and it was a big mess.)

But this is getting off-topic. Let's take it somewhere else.

This is a prime example of me (I think - "THINK" being emphasized). In the Mafia set-up I sent to EM a couple days ago, there were two roles that I made up. Whether they're new or not, I don't know - but they didn't appear on the Mafia Wiki page, so I assume they would be. Since I don't see myself hosting a mafia anytime soon, I'm just gonna post them.

Commander - As the Commander, you see and know everything that your force knows. Anything that happens during the night will be revealed to you at the beginning of the following day - although you won’t know who the Night Action originated from, you will find out the results. The downside of being the Commander of your army, if you are defeated, your entire army is defeated (town loses).

Sage - With your mystical powers, you can transmit your thoughts into the minds of others. Each night, you may choose a target and something to say. What you say must consist of ten words or less. In the morning, your target will wake up with your thoughts in his mind. Since this is a mental action and not a physical one, this action is immune to any form of protection and/or misdirection. The person whom you speak these words to will NOT know who the words originated from, though you may tell them if you wish.

I would appreciate feedback on these. I'm still rather new to mafia myself and would like to know how these roles would possibly play out.

Oops, sorry I didn't get back to you! I had a couple of midterms yesterday so everything was put out of my mind...

On the Commander, the clear problem is that last line. I've come to recognize that there are huge problems with insta-lose effects, kind of for the same reasons as MaRo and the gang aren't so willing to put "you lose the game" on cards, but even moreso. I'll quote something I've said in a PM and more:

In Mafia, a plain vanilla game is obviously pretty boring because it's so straightforward. Extra abilities make the game more fun by affording you a greater range of ways by which to act. However, craziness is not the same as complexity. A complex game has many intricacies but hopefully has some purpose and reason behind its complexities. A crazy game simply has random abilities thrown in for the sake of having lots of events happen; but it is not simply having lots of things happen that makes a game fun. A crucial element of Mafia is that you use your head: you think about the behaviours of others and why they do what they do, and using this thinking, you consciously and meaningfully utilize your abilities to attain your ends. Random factors detract from this element because they reduce the importance of thinking and increase the significance of dumb luck in the outcome. If the craziness is pushed too much, eventually you just stop thinking, because what does it matter if it all depends on the coin flip or the die roll anyways? And having all of your effort in the form of your actions being reduced to shambles, not by the cold, hard logic and ingenious reasoning of another player, but by a stupid random number generator is totally disheartening and unfun. Why the hell'd you even bother to play? Games can definitely be complex and immensely fun; indeed, more complexity has a greater potential for coolness and fun (case in point: Azrael's games) - but, of course, a greater potential for a waste of time too. Take great care.
Having an instant-lose is no fun; it's pretty well random and is generally no fun for players, who expect a game where they can have fun and plan for the future, and instead end up with a few days of speculation without any ability to bring it all to fruition. That's just frustrating and completely unsatisfying.

As for the Sage, though, I think that's a really cool idea. It's neat and open-ended. And in case it didn't come through in the previous paragraph, open-endedness is something good (as long as there's some structure). You shouldn't be micromanaging games; players should come up with plans you didn't think up, but that you allowed for. I guess it's a lot like designing Magic cards really, so take some lessons from MaRo (or whichever designer you don't loathe).

Yes, of course, it would have to be modified because of that. The reward was high as was the risk, but that creates a too high level of volatility. The two have to match, and at a reasonable enough level.
