View Full Version : Checklist: Things to add/change in the forums

***PHPBB SITE TECHIE NEEDED TO ADD THESE THINGS**

This first post will act as a checklist of things I would like to add to the forum. I would encourage mod or not mod users to post in this thread to offer suggestions on things to add.

Also note that I am able to install pre-existing mods given that they are easy mods to install. I installed two tonight (10/27/05) that have nothing to do with this list... but more to test my skills with adding mods that have already been written and tested.

Please discuss.

BRAND NEW LIST FOR THE UPDATE! - Butte

Current List of things to add/change (03/17/06)

1. Sub-forums - DONE

2. Blue Tabs style - DONE

3. Bring back Card Tags - IN THE WORKS

4. Bring back Spoiler Tag - DONE*

5. Attachment Mod - IN THE WORKS

6. "Home" Link at the top of the nav bar - DONE

7. Global Announcements - DONE

8. Alignment Tags - DONE*

**Note: The spoiler tags and alignment tags are FULLY FUNCTIONAL. However, in the posting screen there are a couple issues:

- In the dropdown for the Alignment tags, there is no text specifying the box's purpose, or the options in the box. This will be fixed soon, hopefully.

- The spoiler button works, however, I have to modify it so that the instructions to use it will appear when the box is hovered over.

We already kind of have that. Click on "Who's online" on the bottom of the main index page.

This is off-topic, but to help Stolin: Use the quote button on top of the screen, don't type in
. If you type it in it doesn't work.

I have added CENTER tags to the posting modules on this forum. This doesn't complete any of the original requests for modifications to the forum.. but its a start. It shows me what needs to be changed to add the Card tags so that is a start. You can comment on this specific tag addition in the following thread:

http://www.magicdeckvortex.com/phpBB/viewt...topic.php?t=476 (http://www.magicdeckvortex.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=476)

EDIT: I found a 'spoiler' mod... but it looks kind of complex.. so I might add it next weekend... if I can figure it out. :P

Anyways, the forums are starting to shape up pretty nicely. Go Go Streetz!

I'm not sure if this will fix the log in problems, but this MOD may help. It has the automatically log-in box checked by default, meaning that people won't have to sign in as much, if they choose to keep it checked. Anyways, here's that mod...

I found two different versions of the Birthday Mod. Feel free to use whichever you feel safer with. Streetz, you will probably need your brother to install whichever one you pick, because both take some intermediate experience. But, it should work nicely after it has been installed. The MOD by Niels seems to be the more popular one. But it is somewhat outdated when compared with the MOD by TerraFrost.

MOD Name: Birthdays
Author: TerraFrost (http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=157695)
MOD Description: Adds a birthday field to the profile, and displays it on the Index along with birthdays up to seven days away, when appropriate. Birthdates can be made mandatory or voluntary, as can the years.

MOD Version: 2.0.0 (Updated 01/02/06)
Installation Level: Intermediate
Installation Time: ~ 30 Minutes

On my quest for MODs, I also found a simple sub-forum one. Although, it is very simple, it might suit your needs. I don't know you if need third layers, fourth layers, etc. This MOD doesn't include any extras, and only supports one-level deep subforums. This too will need intermediate experience to install. SuperStreetz Away!

MOD Name: Simple Subforums
Author: pentapenguin (http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=128026)
MOD Description: This MOD is a simple subforums MOD that doesn't include any extras and makes only one small database change. It supports only one level deep subforums that should be enough for most forums.

MOD Version: 1.0.1 (Updated 12/11/05)

Thanks for the finds, all.

About the Subforums mods.. that involves (if I recall because I downloaded it to my computer a few months ago)... modifying SQL tables.. and that is BEYOND ME. I could read up on it.. but I have been so busy of late. I need a forum techie. :(

Anyone interested?

Please get EasyMod, anyone who knows nothing about PC's could operate it! :)

Please link to it. Thanks.

IN the meantime, I would like to find a way to add buttons to user's names (like Staff Writer, Editor, Rules Guru... ) without having to mess with the ranks.

Is there a way to do this? If anyone has time to find it, please let me know.

If time permits, I will be doing some coding tonight.

These are the links I could find for Easy Mod. The first is the download site on phpBB. The latter is support for the EasyMod application on Area 51. Hopefully, these help a little. 8)

UPDATE AGAIN - ALignment tags are back, spoilers are not.

is the new position code. So
test

Gives:

test[/align:8831c4cbcb]

I most likely won't be adding/fixing anything more tonight. I'm going to talk with a couple people to srot out these issues:

-Spoiler tag (duh)
-Messed up display of subforums
