Hm, how about a Ravnica one? Instead of races choose between the 10 guilds and have stuff for each one, plus secret missions and whatnot to screw with the other guilds, though that could get pretty messy :/ For the mods, um, pioshfd is pretty obsessed with Ravnica style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif and whoever wants to I guess.

I think the one thread RPs are just...... everyone is in one place sort of? I can't explain it very well, instead of having many threads for different places in on WP, you have only 1 thread for one RP in which everyone is in the same region?

One-threads were the way I was taught to RP...

pioshfd pretty much has it right. Instead of having different points in a large world (the threads), it only focuses on the region the group is currently in. Characters don't have to travel together necessarily, so it's easier to follow the timeline.

example: Bob and Jim are in a bar. Sam and Bill are outside.
1.Bob posted: "Get me a drink!" Bob called to the waiter.
2.Sam posted: "Sure is nice weather we're having!" Sam exclaimed
3.Jim posted: Jim got Bob his drink.
4.Bill posted: "I agree!" Bill replied.

As long as you know who is traveling with who, it isn't confusing at all, and because of the post order you know that these things are happening at the same time.

Additionally, unlike WPs, anyone can create an NPC at any time and control them, as long as you're not controlling a character created by someone else without their permission. This leads to having no need for a WM, so overall they're much more casual.

I think I've explained it as best I can, but if you're still confused, I can give you an example. This was done by my old forum group a while back. We were a pretty tight group, so this is super-casual and riddled with inside jokes, but it'll help you get a jist of how things work. Disregard any things that are blatently sticking out, like characters randomly aging or characters randomly falling over dead only to get back up two posts later, that's just us being silly. It depends on how many people the GM needs. In some of the RPs I'm in on another forum, there could be 6 people, or 12 people, or any other number. But many RPs don't get off the ground and end up crashing from lazy GMs and what not.

Random idea: how about a kingdom hearts one? The threads could be the worlds, so Tekk's idea of a casual WP would happen, since only a few people can travels between worlds.

Story:

"2012

There are many theories behind the evil of the universe. Some say there is a god-like creature known as Satan that is the cause of everything bad. Others think it’s natural – that people kill other people because that’s just how they are.

However, there is one very unaccepted theory, and has almost been forgotten; that there are spirits from another place that come here to possess people, and make them do wrong. This may sound like demons and hell and Satan, but it is not. It’s a parallel world of ours, but completely the opposite. Instead of good, there is evil, and they’re leaking into our world in the form of spirits that take over the minds of innocents and make them do horrendous things.

It is said there is a tear in reality itself that allows this leak, and it’s small enough that it’s not too much of a problem. However, over time, that tear grows, and grows, and grows even more, letting more evil into our world. We have ignored it too long, and now that tear is threatening life on Earth as we know it.

The entire world has been informed of this theory, and it has been widely accepted. People all over have different ideas of what should be done, though. In America, many people just want to kill them. In Japan, they try to find out more about them, and how to find them. In Britain, negotiating is the most popular way of dealing with them.

You begin your quest in one of these places. You will encounter many of these possessed people, and many who are not possessed. Who is who? You will have to find that out for yourself.

Legends also tell of a cult of some kind that has already discovered much about the spirits, and have even captured a few somehow. No one has been able to come in contact with these people so far, though."

So this will make quite a bit of work on the GM's part, making up a lot of different npc's and storyline for both sides (spirits and non-spirits). It seems more interesting though, since there would be a lot of people interaction and having to figure out if they're good or evil. The evil people will try to get you all over the place, and in many different ways style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/icon_wink.gif

3. It's not that great of a place, there's like 1 rpg and 3 people so far. It might be if more people went there though... (that is a vague hint btw).
4. No one is insisting on magic related things.
4a. This is a MAGIC SITE. Deal with it. People come here because they like magic... for the most part.
4b. I even suggested a non-magic rpg.
4c. The rpg going on right now has nothing to do with magic.
