The [Deckmechs] are, as you all most probably know, hosting the current Clan Contest. This one will be all about riddles. Not the usual kind where you are asked something, and give the appropriate answer. Instead, you are to try to create some quite bizzare situations in the game of Magic itself, and do so following some specific requirements.

Here are the specific rules the CC will have to follow:

#1) From the list of riddles we will be posting, each clan will be allowed to choose three riddles and notify our clan leader, Neuromancer, about the choices they made as soon as they have chosen them. If your clan should choose a riddle that has already been chosen, your clan leader will be notified and you must choose another one. Every riddle can be chosen only once.

#2 With this, the list so far should be made up of 12 riddles, assuming all clans participate. We ourselves will be chosing, too, after all other clans have made their votes.

#3 The clans will be given a deadline of one week to send back their replies. Of course, if your clan has to choose another riddle due to the fact that one or more of your choices have already been taken, you will be given some extra time, in this case, three more days.

#4 The complete list isn't made up only by the riddles that the clans will be choosing. In addition to that, each clan will have to submit two riddles all by themselves, following some guidelines. We, the [Deckmechs], will still have the right to reject certain riddles if they don't follow the guidelines, of course. More about these guidelines later on. Submiting your own riddles will take part after all clans have chosen three riddles ffrom the list, so try to come up with something different, if possible.

#5 For the guidlines after which each clan will be submitting two riddles of their own: The riddles the clans themselves will be submitting must of course be solveable. If one or more of your riddles shouldn't be solveable (like "Create a Teenage Mutant hero Turtle token" since "Teenage" isn't a legal sub- or supertype, so only "Create a Minor Mutant hero Turtle token" would be accepted. And please, don't submit THAT riddle... In addition to that, we will have to reject any riddle that is too similar to another riddle on the list, to keep things fair. Come up with something yourself, and surprise the other clans! Be creative! We are sure you can do it, and once you are in it, be assured it is fun! Oh, by the way: to keep things funny enough, and not really too weird, we will have to reject any riddle that must involve an infinity-combo, like "Create 13424398 0/1 Monster tokens". We don't want any of these. Of course that is not to say that you are not allowed to USE infinity-combos for your solutions. If you can come up with the cheapest way to solve something and it goes infinite, then just go for it. But don't FORCE others to do so by making riddles that REQUIRE infinity.

#6 After the clans have submitted both their own riddles and the ones they chose from our list, one last riddle will be added to the whole list. (The D-E-C-K-M-E-C-H-S-Riddle...)

#7 To keep things as fair as humanly possible, we decided that each clan (including us, that is) is allowed to secretly ban 3 cards from the tournament. We will be choosing last, then presenting the Banned-list to the public. That means, any card is restricted to one copy in the whole tournamnet anyway, yet certain cards are banned, too. Try to use this to your advantage. The [Deckmechs] will have to reject somecards, if they are the only way to solve certain riddles, but if that is not the case, all is accepted.

#8 After the complete list is composed and everybody knows what is banned, you can begin riddling. From that moment, a deadline of 2 weeks will be given to send our clanleader your solutions. For simplicities sake, please do it all in one PM, if possible, and try to keep changes to your solution-list as few as possible.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#9 The riddles themselves must be solved under the following conditions:

- Normal magic rules applied (both players 20-life start each puzzle, one land/turn)
- You have got only one turn to solve/create the board. This turn consitst of untap, upkeep, main#1, combat, main#2, end of turn. You cannot solve the riddle during your opponents turn.
- No permanents in play, no library, hand or graveyard.
- Now this is the important one: You have unlimited mana at your disposal, but the idea is to spend as little as possible. Spells and activated abilities with X in their mana cost can't be played. Mana created without these rules can't be spent.
You may create mana of any color to play your spells with, but you may not use any mana that isn't created by the puzzle rules. For example, if you wanted to, you could play a Dark Ritual and add BBB to your pool, but you wouldn't be able to spend it on anything. You can play a Rishadan Port, and you can use its ability to tap a land, but you can't tap it to generate mana.
- You can "create" any card known in magic and put it in your hand. (except for cards from Unglued and Unhinged)
- All cards are unique. When Mountain Goat is used for puzzle #1, you can't create a second one. Not even in puzzle#2.
- After all the clans will have submitted their solutions of the complete list of riddles, the clans will be awarded points for each riddle, all of which are handled seperately. If your clan has used the least amount of mana for riddle #X, your clan will get three points. For the clan that has used the second-least amount of mana, one point will be awarded. If two or more clans used the same amount of mana to solve a riddle, each of those clans will be given only 2 points, so that the riddles where everybody has a good solution don't count as much as those where you were thinking hard enough to earn your points.

Hi again!

Here are the rules again...
Feel free to ask away if some rules aren't clear.
Each clanleader should make a post when they think they are ready to fight!

LET THE CARNAGE BEGIN!!!!

All Clan Leaders have 4 days to PM me their riddle choices.

As an adept of Blaine the Mono, I'm saddened that these are not true riddles and that this is not a true riddle-contest. That would probably not have been appreciated by the other forum-members though.

The Order is currently organizing a Patriarch and a few Initiates to take care of this contest. I hope we will have great opposition.

I agree with Yawgmoth. We can just look everything up in MWS or something anyway. (Oh, and you need to work on your spelling P_P  lol.)

Anyone has a clue who will organize the next Clan Contest.

Mad Mat
06-05-2006, 02:20 PM
Oh, and I don't have a clue what the actual point is here. It's just a random list of things to do or what? So we have to do this first turn? Or make up what the opponent will do?

Maleficent
06-05-2006, 03:31 PM
The rules had it all listed, but they're gone. P_P told me that each clan picks 3 of the 'riddles', picks a few banned cards, then it's all revealed. All clans do the chosen riddles and make up 2 of their own. You have to do it all in one turn with the least amount of mana possible, though you have infinite. You have no cards in your hand, library, or graveyard, but can put whatever cards in your hand you want. The opponent does nothing. And every card is restricted.

But still, you can just search for stuff. You don't really have to know much...

I'm confused. Someone explain the contest again. It looks good and fun.. but I don't get it. Why was the first post deleted?

I think they are reworking the rules to make them.. better?
anyways, neuro, I've picked my 3, does the rule still apply, or do we get more time due to tech?

We'll give you an additional 3 days.

Sorry about that folks. It was sort of my fault (PM me if you want the gruesome details). I sincerely appologize to the Deckmechs for almost F-ing up your contest
Please forgive me  (we really need a puppy-dog faced smiley on here).

Huh? I don't get it? Or should I PM you if I don't get what you mean? CONFUSION!

Tekkactus

Yawg, pick three of the forty. If there are doubles between clans, you'll be notified to pick a new one. Once we have 3 riddles from each clan, each clan solves all 12 (15 with the Lorehold?) of the choices. You also choose 3 cards that can't be used at all in the contest. None of the clans can use those 12 (Again, 15?) cards.

You're playing mental magic with infinite mana. Do what the riddle tells you using the least amount of mana possible, and use any one card only once in the contest. Clan with the least amount of total mana used for the puzzles wins. Got it memorized?

The Lorehold is rallying again! Be afraid, for we WILL win!

Yezzandrix
06-13-2006, 12:06 PM
Glad to hear that! That's the spirit.

But beeing afraid would imply that we would take that thing dead-serious. We don't. It is supposed to be fun, and that is actually the thing we placed over all other thing when we where talking about and creating the CC.

So go ahead, have fun.

I SAID HAVE FUN! That was not optional, you hear me, all of you out there?
