I am Scrollmaster Syphon and I will be your clanleader for the time being.
The first priority for the Lorehold is to recruit new members, get a logo and then start off with a contest to get to know all the members.

So what are this clan's goals?

The wizards are pretty much mods, the Deckmechs are all about using jank rares to beat T1.0 decks, The order CLAIMS to be about the flavor of the game (everybody knows they're just power-hungy weirdos) and the academy... does.... stuff.

So what does this clan do?

The Lorehold is all about the older sets. When we think Urza's Tower, we don't think the flimsy new fangled 9th Ed but Antiquities!

Contests inside the clan are going to include making decks with 2 random old sets for instance, or coming up with new cards using old mechanics.

Hm. Let's see. Since I have been playing the old-but-not-so sets lately, we can first talk about Odyssey. What is your opinion on this block, and do you have a favourite card, if any?

For now, things are kinda low-level until the other clans recognize us as a new clan and we get our own private forum. From then on, I can start dividing the clan into units.
For those units, you can think of things like Public Relations, Contest Management and such and such.

Cultural Exchange: Any card that allows me to trade a 1/1 squirrel token for a 5/5 Flying Dragon with Firebreathing is okay by me.

Having said that, Entomb comes in a close second (Turn 1 Akroma anyone?). Karmic Justice is fun too.

New Frontiers is a card I'm making use of in junction with Pulse of Llanowar and Heartbeat of Spring in a deck I'm working on.

Terravore is sick, but you need to be able to abuse it right.

Drafting from this block was fn as heck too.

My favorite cards were ... most of them now that I think about but, Circular Logic, Wild Mongrel, Compulsion, Mirari, Chainer's Edict.

I'd like to volunteer myself as a contest idea generator :) I am a good idea generator, but finishing what I started is not a strong point of mine. Heck, I just open my mouth and theoretical things pop out. It up to someone else to put them to work, but the ideas are usually strongly based.

I have two ideas right now, but I don't want them to be stolen by other, not-so-honorable clans who will try to mooch my brain for thier glory. Those people are rotten to the bone.

I hate to bust out the modhammer, but my duty is to keep things nice and fair in this forum. Calling other clans names or other disruptive actions to create rivalries and conflict is not the way to go.

Beings that I am the head of contests for Lorehold, I can tell you that once we get increased interest in our thread, I would be more than happy to do some clan contests. Luther has told me that he is working currently with other clans to generate some interest in contests involving them as well.

Have a little patience with us, as we are starting up...again. Check out the clan thread, as we have begun creating our own clan Magic set. :)

Hey guys, I am currently working on increasing our numbers as well as a contest and a few articles; but what this means that I will be quiet from time to time. But this doesn't mean I am unreachable; my MSN email and messenger address is open to all and PM's will be the first call of business everytime I visit the forum.

As for members we currently have seven signed members, but I have a list of people who have expressed interest in joining so I'm just awaiting their requests through the User CP Menu. Also, the clan is for all of us; if you have an idea for a thread you wish to post or would like to discuss with the other members, then do so.

[Lorehold] Journal - Day #1
Lorehold Contest #2: Seven Card Stud is under way. Round One features only four players, but already, registration for round two has six players signed up.

To give you a teaser on the contest, imagine Magic played Chess style, with a few added twists to the rules, and you have a vague idea as to the fun we are beginning. :)

[Lorehold] Journal - Day #2
Today, we chose the sets to be used in Round Two of Seven Card Stud. In case you were wondering what was selected in Round One, we used Alpha, Arabian Knights, Coldsnap, Weatherlight, Exodus, Urza's Destiny, and Prophecy.

The most commonly used card in the First Round was Gemstone Mine, as it was utilized by Casual_Violence and Luthervamplord. Thank God we didn't use Legacy this time around, or we would have had an influx of Treetop Village!

It has been fun to watch the interactions between the old cards. This Round, we have a real good mix of older sets and newer sets. Wonder which sets they are...?

Also, we have begun work on a clan Fictional Magic Set. The storyline is being written by a good friend of the clan, with help from your's truely, so we will be needing to create cards that will flow with the storyline. While we have currently around 40 cards made, the plan is to create 3 sets which will consist of the same card counts that typical blocks run. If this catches your interest, feel free to contact Luthervamplord about becoming an active member of Lorehold.

[Lorehold] Journal - Day #3
Finally we have posted the Prolouge and First Chapter of the clan card sets storyline. It is slightly a long read, but well worth it. While it tells the beginning story of our main character, it also does a good job foreshadowing another main character.. I love foreshadowing!

The overall story has also been posted for clan members to take a look at and brainstorm card ideas for. We have renewed a discussion about certain creatures *coughdragonscough* doing strange things under certain circumstances. Needless to say, our creative juices are underway creating a cool mechanic for the project.

We have finished our first game of the first round of Seven Card Stud, and await the results of the other game, and pairings for the second games. The result of the few games so far have sparked some ideas for improving future rounds of 7CS, which I have posed to my clanmates for discussion and voting. Hopefully it will not be too much longer now until Round one comes to an end.

Another day, another dollar.

The Seven Card Stud Contest continues rolling on as we draw nearer to the end of Round 1. The participants are chomping at the bit to get started on Round 2, and I think I am beginning to see a trend where the players like making the decks more than playing the game. Oh well, everyone has thier likes and dislikes.

We decided to to add a special sideboard to the contest for Round 2. Hopefully it makes the games more skill oriented and less cut and dry results.

Today we welcome fellow MDV Writing Staff member Greyfell to the ranks of Lorehold. Beings the clan of Knowledge, having skilled writers in our ranks would only make sense. Besides myself and Greyfell, members of the MDV Writing Staff in Lorehold would include Casual_Violence, Micheal Zeora, and some other guy.. what was his name? It's coming to me.. give an old man a break here.. oh *click click* That's right! How could I forget LutherVamplord. Good job doing the recruiting Luther. Mind if I call you Luke? :) Just kidding of course. As leader of our clan, Luther does alot of stuff behind the scenes that most of us have no clue about. Want an example? So do I! But I see the light on in his little office during the wee hours of the afternoon, which is remarkable considering.. he is a vampire afterall!

Don't forget to mix in some sleep Luther, your no good to us dead... err, alive.. well.. just get some sleep.

I am looking to join a clan and Lorehold seems to fit the bill quite nicely{the others just seem kinda pointless}
there is only one problem.
I only started playin around when Onslaught hit the scene ...therefore i don't have a vast knowledge of sets before that. I do know a lot about the game. and I do know a lot about sets before Onslaught...it just may be not enough
if you would like to give me a test of my knowledge...then i would be glad to take it. and hopefully i will do quite well.
I do enjoy playing with older cards.
I pretty much hate type 2 all together.(i just don't see the point in limiting my card choices)
I also do happen to enjoy block play.(at my playing table we used to play a lot of onslaught and mirrodin block.)
and play a lot...and i mean a lot more extended and vintage.

Scion, we don't demand that you know alot about the old sets. As a matter of fact, if your willing to learn, we have much to teach. Especially in our contests, you will do much research on old sets, so you will learn about those cards in time.

The only thing that we ask of our members is that you be active and give back as much as you take :)

[Lorehold] Journal Day #6

Upon compiling a roster for our clan finally, we got a good look at what we have in our group. I find it pretty impressive from a fairly new clan, as we sport five MDV Writers, and two artists. Currently we stand at 13 clan members, and with Scion looking to join, we are looking towards 14 and beyond!

Currently, we are investigating getting a Magic Arena type league going, within the clan, and expanding outward once established. If this interests you, and you'd like to get involved, contact us and see about how you can join our fellowship.

A clan is basically a group of friends. We are making a magic league to have fun in, have contests, discussions, help each other with decks, life problems, make fictional magic sets, etc.

If youl read a few posts up, I am keeping a running journal of the things we have been doing in the clan. :)

Each clan is a group of users with common goals and interests. Clans exist to promote friendship among MDV members, and each clan has its own unique goals and motto.

[Lorehold] Journal Day #7

Development of the Lorehold Arena league is progressing very well. We are currently working on defining what would be a viable set of rules for a 'Casual Format'. Also, we have decided to break up the league into three Divisions; Eternal, Limited, and Casual. The 'feel' each division has is comparable to the feel of different divisions of Boxing. You have your Heavyweights, your Middleweights, and your Lightweights. Not that anyone one of those divisions are any better than another. We are not only going to have those divisions be different in deck construction, but also in play and the like.

It will definitely be interesting to see how the divisions are received once the entire plan is unveiled. We will first test the league within our clan, basically to work out the bugs and get the rating system up and working, but once everything is working fine, and the rules are synched up, as to not allow exploitation (mainly Casual Format), we will invite other clans to join our league, as we also have developed a fun way to have inter-clan matches that have lasting ramifications. A game is just a game, but when your clan loses some of its fame, you’ll definitely want to come back and reclaim your fame!

Interested in the league and helping to develop it from the ground up? PM Luthervamplord and ask him to join Lorehold so you can get on the team.

After having meetings with the Dechmechs, we ar moving forward with the MDV Arena League design. We hope to have it up and running by the beginning of the new year. Also, Lorehold and Dechmechs have come to an agreement to re-open the long since closed doors or the MDV Deck Clinic.

Are you good at building decks? Know your way around a counterspell, and able to kick a huge Akroma into the grave? Interested in helping newbies learn to build decks to do the same thing? Then contact Luthervamplord and see about entering Lorehold, as we under take some big projects.

We are getting so close to the launch of the Magic League. Currently, we are looking to bolster out roster with players to help improve our skill and clan comradery. The league starts here folks. Join us if you’d like to be in on the Beta testing.

I came across an interesting Magic program recently, and after discussing it with the programs owner, he will be joining us in the pursuit of a great League environment. We are looking for designers and artists who would like to help improve the game play and customize the program to our needs.

The program I use to play league is Magic Apprentice, can support any deck format and has every card starting from Alpha basically.

2 - Requirements, I think there might be a test, I wasn't tested though, Luther would know...

i wonder, does anyone still read these? ihope so , but eh. im just leaving a note here saying that within my studies i have found(within the books) that yawgmoth could have been a planeswalker. right now im checking my sources, and will have a little article that states how, posted within the next couple of days. so check back soon.

It's possible, but I do have my doubts, possibility may be a planeswalker now, but did have extensive help with Szat pre-attack/invasion (after the attack against him with the Legacy Weapon)

The alternate timeline (where Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth is found) suggests that in this time line that Yawgmoth didn't survive and thus doesn't have the spark of a Planeswalker.

Would it be possible to think that someone as twisted as Yawgmoth would do with such power? wouldn't it be slightly easier to terraform the Plane into his Great Evolution?

well MZ its was possible, see in the thran book and on through apocolaspe, there are small but important details that tell how even urza could make a planeswalker. now with these small but powerful details it was possible for yawgmoth to become the planewalker that he always desired to be. the only problem was, for all his intelligents and foresight, he was to busy to understand that he was just inches away from becomeing a true god; and thus in my article; is the flaw of the great and mighty YAWGMOTH.

From the Clan of Flavour, I can tell you that Yawgmoth never was, and never will be a planeswalker. Within Phyrexia, he had the powers of one (being its God), but he does not have the spark - Dyfed (the planeswalker from The Thran) said as much. He firmly believed there was an organ for planeswalking, but it isn't as much physical as it is... spiritual, in a way - something you cannot gain but must have, kind of like character imo.

And he was busy, yes, but lived 9000 years. Surely he would have been able to aquire that gift in that amount of time if he could. His greater flaws would be paranoia and obsession. He "died" because he would not give up on Dominaria. He was obsessed, and believed Gaea (Dominaria's spirt), and Weatherlight, to be Rebbec.

i swear to you he could have been, but thats for a later time. you know come to think about it, he was very paraniod for someone with control of a world. but hey who am i to say. and they were rebbec, you could tell in the book apcolapse. also would you give up on a world that kicked you out? i think not, i would have went back and torn that place to shreds, but im not evil, only vengeful.=)

but on last question, how could karn become a planewalker; he was a machine with no soul thus imo no spark? but........give me about two days longer and i will tell how that can happen along with yawgy becoming one too.

Nah, Rebbec died. Yawgmoth just thought they were. Weatherlight had her own soul from all the parts that made her up. Only Yawgmoth called her that. And it wasn't really the world that kicked him out, just Rebbec (and Glacian). He's quite obsessed with her. The rest of his enemies fled to Phyrexia when the stone chargers were about to kill them all, Rebbec was the only one who resisted.

Karn did have a soul, though. Like Urza said, Karn was the only machine he stopped tinkering with, because Karn always improved himself. Not outwardly, but inwardly. He had his own thoughts, passions, etc, and he very well could have had the spark too. Or, if not, it could have been the stone Urza had in his head. Both halves held Glacian's soul, and Glacian had the spark. That could have helped Urza become a planeswalker too, hmm. If that's true, maybe Yawgmoth could have been a planeswalker. Nuts O.o
