A fair amount of the time in the last couple of days, the forums have just been going really really slow. No idea why. I've had no problem with any other sites, just this one.

Most likely, search engine spiders.
Search engines like Google et al use scripts usually referred to as spiders, to view pages throughout every site they can find, and catalog info. It severely ties up the server.

You can go ahead and IP ban them then. It's been VERY VERY slow for me too.
