I wanted to give the basics of my deck: BASICALLY turn everything into artifacts, make MY artifacts indestructible, and swing with unblockable creatures equipped with world slayer. IF i hit once, and my permanents are indestructible, then it's game over. Because this is my opponent afterwards: Drop a land...maybe something with a CMC of 1...go. Everything's gone again...drop a land, maybe play something with a aCMC of 1...go. GG

I forsee some well placed Path to Exiles being pretty frustrating there XD

I just took a glance at some of the decklists and a few made me smile. Let's keep the entries coming! :) And good work thus far!

Got an idea cooking, finally. Let's just see if I can make it work by the deadline...

I just revamped mine to include dark rits. i had a dream last night about playing the deck and it didn't have the mana to really play it until late game. I'm thinking about other ways to revamp it as well for mana excel

Let's create some feedback ...

@George: Hm ... I don't like Gerard a lot, maybe you could change it for other evasive creature and add another legendary thing.

@Cashew: I'm sure you already tested it, but ... is the egg worth 3 slots?

@KlassyReborn: You want tons of mana? Only one word: URZATRON (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&name=+[urza]+![factory]&type=+[Land])!!! Oh, and Mishra's Workshop could help as well.

@Thomasdm: Why the Isamarus? I don't see their purpose. Also, Mesa Enchantress with only 8 enchantments in the deck ... I see it as a waste of slots.

@diablo0880: What's Rhys doing there? There are far better token generators.

@weirdone13: Shu Cavalry? Hell, why? Use Soltari Priest or something like that, not a vanilla 2/2 for 3 mana. Sure it's (almost) unblockable, but there are much better options.

@Shaitan666: Some of the same that I've said to Klassy: Urzatron would help you a bit.

@Tresserhorn: How about some Defense of the Heart to put your combo out faster?

weirdone13
10-23-2009, 12:08 AM
I know the calvary aren't the best options, but I just kind of wanted to play a cheaper creature with horsemanship for fun.

.../face palm. how the piss did i forget about the urzatron?

brb

EDIT: thank you, now i should have the mana...if only i had the cards irl to test this deck out...and no i don't like using magic workstation. i'd rather have physical copies.

@ALEX Ryugami I love your description: "Path to Exile: The drawback usually backfires you, but not when you slay the world. Basically, this is a creature and (basic) land destruction."XD It's kind of like a tricky Plague Spores!

@Streetz-Oh my god! That was top secret!;)

Let's create some feedback ...

@Shaitan666: Some of the same that I've said to Klassy: Urzatron would help you a bit.

While Urzatron would be great for acceleration, if I play 4 copies of each Urza land, I'm left with no white mana (which is pretty essential in there), also, the lands are only useful to a certain point in the game (when I play those nasty mana artifacts). I think the 4 Workshops are more than enough there, plus Urzatron is not that solid without Sylvan Scrying.

CoglineErro
10-25-2009, 12:42 PM
@ ALEX: Path plan doesn't work quite as well as you'd hope since it says they "may" get the land. But that does just make a strong card stronger.

ALEX Ryugami

@Old Fogey: Thank you :D
@CoglineErro: Nah, I didn't realize that >.<, but at least I have ridden the creature forever :)

Changed my submission....SO Happy how it is now. Cards just kept falling together, and when I seen Rhox I knew I was on to something....couldn't inject much humor into it though besides whipporwill.

@George G: I like the mono:g: theme. I can’t wait until your Whippoorwill gains the flying it deserves after you cast Akroma’s Memorial!

@Cashew: I hope the griffin gets equipped! I like the sassy Academy Rector package.

@KlassyReborn: Forge? Lattice? Beebles…GG!

@thomasdm: I love your description. Konda is a badass. May your Karoos never die!

@diablo0880: I admire your no planeswalker credo. I hope you get to attack with a Oversouled, Worldslaying Grizzled Leotau

@weirdone13: I like the Nether Shadows, but love the Shu Cavalry.

@p-chan: The Damping Matrix/Nimbus/Lynx is my favorite combo.

@shaitan666: I think that deck could take on all the denizens of all the layers of Hell. Love the Dynamos/Powerstones.

@Magic Moose: I hope your Gilder Bairn gets to wield the Worldslayer at least once, it will go great with his costume.

@bloodgate: The other 13 better include Chub Toad.

@Tresserhorn: Lone Wolf? That’s the best thing since Lenny and Sqiggy. Any Rebbeca Guay legend is awesome.

@ALEX Ryugami: Nice Griffin Guide tech.

@hells33kerd: Snuffout is perfect!

@Championkitsune: The only thing I like better than Wrap in Vigor is Wail of the Nim (I assume the Nim would be your opponent in this case).

@Streetz: Be easy on yourself. It’s a fact that people usually assess themselves more harshly than necessary. (See Hermie the Dentist from Rudolph, The Red Nosed Reindeer.)

@CoglineErro: Hunted Phantasm is the coolest sword wielder so far IMO.

@pchan: Your Damping Matrix, while a good card, will prevent you from equipping Worldslayer. I recommend Cursed Totem (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=15404) instead. It even prevents your opponent's creatures from using mana abilities, and of course your deck doesn't use them.

Old Fogey

@ MTG59895: Nice catch on the Damping Matrix! I like the last Laugh, Zuran Orb combo. The orb stills leaves a feeling of frustration in me when I remember when I brought a rouge Ice Ages block deck to a PTQ (I think) only to realize just how good the Ivory Gargoyle deck was.

I get this strange feeling when I think about swapping out the Grim Tutors for Demonic Tutors. Demonic Tutor appears to be an option for this contest, but it doesn't seem like a fair card to me. Any thoughts on the matter?

Old Fogey

Most folk around here use the Banned/Restricted List. I'd use one D Tutor for a Vintage list.

Hell ... YEAH!!! The idea was to equip the Worldslayer trough a Quest for the Holy Relic, and in case of need Oblivion Ring your own Damping Matrix, but ... many, many thanx for remembering me that little card I was forgeting XD. I'm remodeling the deck arround ...

As for your Demonic Tutor, go ahead and use one. It's not too powerful away from Force of Will, and people use these 4 by 4 XP

May I use several copies of one legendary permanent in this contest? Or there may be only 1 copy of each legendary permanent?

You can put it in more than 1 copy of a particular Legend. So if you want two Karakas in your deck, go for it!

It's just like any other deck you would build. you can use multiple copies, but for playability reasons why would you have a full playset? With the exception of Flagstones of Trokair...which i think is like the most popular card in this contest i think.

i know i'm too old to know not to double post, but i wanted to bump the thread for this suggestion:

-BleinMono-
I love the concept of your deck, i'd find some way to work Jhiora of the Ghitu into there.

BleinMono
10-30-2009, 03:16 AM
Jhoira of the Ghitu (http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=136194) (and some monsters like darksteel colossus) was there in the first versions of the deck. But then I understood, that there are some problems with Jhoira:
1. I need a fatty in my hand, so there should be many of them and I will have less important cards for entire deck consept to go
2. I prefer to spend my turn 3 to play Kraken or Mulldrifter
3. She is a fragile 2/2 and I cannot rely on her as a vin condition. I rather suspend a monster throught its own suspend ability, it is more reliable.

Thanks! I've been testing it a bit, and you can consistently get your various five mana cards out on turn three or four thanks to 'Tron/Tinker/Metalworker/Ingot. The Myr and Karn also make good blockers if you don't have the Slayer or the Monument.

BleinMono
11-03-2009, 11:07 PM
The story is nice, but i don't really understand the concept of the deck. Yes, it's a slivers deck. But i do not see any real synergy between slivers and worldslayer... I think this deck will win 9 games of 10 via horde of slivers and only 1 game - via worldslayer.

omegaprime9774
11-03-2009, 11:22 PM
You have to take it from the perspective that I create all my decks for MFFA. Slivers do not survive in my playgroup unless there are plenty of tricks...just check out my millsliver deck in the deck archives. Plus the toxic sliver allows each sliver that didn't attack to survive the Worldslayer...really sweet synergy if you ask me.

@ StanZor:
Your consept is rather interesting, but i think, that it's more a combo deck Vampire Hexmage + Dark Depths, rather than the wordslayer deck.
You have only 6 creatures with evasion, and Filth is rather conditional. And i really don't understand Sleeper Agent here. Only Mortivore can stop it (if there are at list 3 creatures on the graveyard), Agent can chap plock your Marit Lage.

@ Old Fogey: Lol thanks i just find it faster to win by everything dies rather then waiting longer for that conditional "Your stuff dies, Mine stays alive".

@ BleinMono: I'm glad it got your interests. I'm glad you commented as well i love input to help me out in the future (This was actually my first deck ever submitted). The reason it seems kinda thrown together is I wanted more adaptability around worldslayer to better fit conditions rather then a one sided focus. I prefer them not to forsee any combos seen before. The Hexmage+Dark Depths it just basically an oh sh*t button after worldlslayer lol. "Bam! Everythings dead... Lol oh look a 20/20 indestructable!" Just for luaghs.

Throw in some damnation, and an indestructable mana base with Darksteel Citadel and Darksteel Garrison, and Darksteel Ingot. Throw in some dredge with Life from the Loam, and Golgari Grave Troll and you have recur your hasty creatures every turn, blow everything up with Worldslayer, rinse, wash repeat. @hairzl: I can't wait to see the look in that Myojin of Infinite Rage's eyes when you attack with your Ferropede wielding a Worldslayer!
Last week, in a 6-player mult.
I saw a winning Helix Pinnacle get hit with a end-of-turn Flashed Aura thief.
The table lost it. Since both the flash and aura thief were one-of's in a fairly random green/blue deck. I was out earlier on for Swinging into a Just-exploded Myr Incubator deck with 36 myr's, with a single Volrath's Shapeshifter copied as a Nacatl War-Pride which then got changed to a Angel of Despair. suddenly having a possible 36 Vindicate effects on the stack led to a Voidslime and a subsequent swing in board attention. aka Massive Evershrike on ol'Harry.

I love any deck that uses bad cards well, and isn't out to win.

Finally, the results from “Worldslaying 102” are out, it wasn’t easy judging all you guys’ decks. Being my first time judging a contest like this, I tested every single deck and having only 30 points to give out, it came to a pretty close competition between the first place and the runner-ups. Most of the decks were fun to play with and almost all managed to fulfill the contest’s guidelines. So really guys, many tough choices were involved in this judging. Anyway, let’s start with our first place, Tresserhorn’s deck:

1st Place: Tresserhorn’s “Asmira, the Worldslayer”
I loved this deck since the day I submitted my entry, reanimating Asmira is really a great idea for a Worldslayer deck. The idea of the deck is to bring Asmira, Holy Avenger from the graveyard after a Worldslayer activation with Reveillark. The thing here is to equip a Lone Wolf with the Sword, pass the turn (or not, if you have enough mana) and on the next turn float enough mana for Reveillark, hit with Worldslayer and use the mana to play Reveillark bringing a potentially buffed Asmira back into play.

Synergy/Combo: 10/10 – Tresserhorn used a combo no one else thought of, there is a lot of synergy/parallel combos here too, in case the main strategy fails, the deck can use Worldslayer to do a world of harm.

Playability: 9/10 – The mana base was pretty solid, although the deck uses a lot of colors, the chosen lands are good enough to make sure you can almost always cast what you draw. The only point deduction I made here was because there’s just Lone Wolf and a lone Outmaneuver to trigger Worldslayer. (Although, maybe you could count Reveillark?).

Overall: 10/10 – This deck turned out to be very enjoyable to play with, while playing with this online on MWS, I drew a lot of “WTF’s” from my opponents. (Ok, maybe because I was playing with Wordslayer, which is kind of an underdog). The submission included a witty title for the deck and a good, thorough description. Overall, the deck runs well and is a lot of fun, what’s not to like?

SCORE: 29/30

2nd place: p-chan’s “Redemption”
Using damped Holy Nimbus Clergy and Knights to survive the Worldslaying was a really cool idea; p-chan’s deck has acceleration, ways to trigger Worldslayer and other creatures that can survive the impact.

Synergy/Combo: 9/10 – Clergy of the Holy Nimbus, Knight of the Holy Nimbus + Cursed Totem was a great idea here. The other creatures all have a way of protecting themselves or another creature from board-wiping. Day of Judgment adds an extra way to destroy all creatures, giving them the chance to regenerate and synergizing with the Holy Nimbus clan.

Playability: 10/10 – Being a mono-white deck with a consistent mana base and even a little bit of acceleration and having a very viable mana curve, there’s no problems here.

Overall: 9/10 – Using the combo is fun, but can annoy the hell out of your opponents. When Cursed Totem hits the table with three or four Clergy/Knight/Lynx in play, lots of time the opponent concedes. In casual, where there’s usually no reason to play artifact destruction, this deck is a bomb! The title was pretty cool and the description was informative enough.

SCORE: 28/30

3rd place: hells33kerd’s “Shadow Slaying”

Hells’ deck focused on using shadows to damage your opponent with Worldslayer equipped, but not before you play a devastating Neverending Torment. Who cares if the board is cleared when constantly removing cards from your opponent’s library every turn until he can’t draw and loses? The use of Epic Spells is a great idea with the Worldslayer, and the heavy use of black/blue utility spells made this one of my favorite decks.

Synergy/Combo: 9/10 – Not much to say here, Epic goes great with board wiping and shadows are great for dealing direct damage to your opponent (triggering Worldslayer).

Playability: 9/10 – While the choice of lands to play blue/black was good enough, I got the feeling the deck could use a few more lands overall, especially if you want to play Neverending Torment. That was the only playability flaw here.

Overall: 9/10 – hells33kerd’s choice was both original and fun to play with, his description was lengthy and informative. I just think he could do a little better on the title.

SCORE: 27/30

4th place: Old Fogey’s “Esper Crusade”

Old Fogey relied on the use of synergy instead of combos; the deck presents ways to give you lots of quick mana, speeding up your artifact engine while having lots of options on artifact creatures to trigger Worldslayer and either be regenerated by Metallurgeon or made indestructible by That Which Was Taken.

Synergy/Combo: 8/10 – As I already mentioned, the deck presented lots of synergy, its cards just work damn good together.

Playability: 8/10 – While highly playable, the deck could use some more toolboxing, since it relies solely on artifacts, Sphinx Summoner being the only artifact-fetching machine here.

Overall: 10/10 – Excellent description, in fact, my personal favorite among all other submissions. Old Fogey not only gave a detailed card by card description, he even managed to write a little flavor side story to go with the deck’s theme.

SCORE: 26/30

5th place: CoglineErro’s Halloween’s World

Cog’s deck relied on a tricky tactic: Worldslaying with a vast array of unblockable creatures, setting All Hallows Eve and making it one-sided using graveyard removal.

Synergy/Combo: 9/10 – The combo is easy to pull and instantly defines the game. It’s also pretty original.

Playability: 8/10 – A strong deck using a strong combo. All his creatures are unblockable, so there’s no problem hitting with the ‘Slayer. The deck could benefit from a little adjustment in its lands: it’s very hard to get enough mana to play Second Sunrise, for example; and from a little toolboxing: it is a combo deck that uses black and blue after all.

Overall: 8/10 – I loved playing with this deck, the combo went just so easily, it even crept me out a bit. Very fun to play overall. Deck title and description were decent.

SCORE: 25/10

6th place: canadagreen’s “Vengeful Robot Gods”

canada’s deck was, really, one of the strongest ones in terms of playability, all the cards play very well together and the deck turned out to be very, very strong in the testing.

Synergy/Combo: 9/10 – While not particularly original, the deck does synergize and combo all over. Monument and Worldslayer, toolboxing, mana acceleration, Tezzeret. It all just comes together really well.

Playability: 10/10 – Totally awesome, as already mentioned.

Overall: 5/10 – The lack of originally is what dragged this deck’s score down. Cool concept, description and title, but the choice of cards is such a staple in the artifact scene that it wasn’t that fun to play with it.

SCORE: 24/30

7th place: Cashew’s “Aftermath”
Cashew focused on creatures that can resist, or benefit, board wiping, Epochrasites, Kitchen Finks, Mistmoon Griffin, almost all his creatures give a good effect when they’re dead, Promise of Bunrei furthers that strategy, giving cheap spirits when he wipes the board. In addition to the Worldslayers, he also plays Wrath of God as another way of triggering his dying creatures.

Synergy/Combo: 8/10 – Most of the cards in the deck play very well with each other, making destroying all creatures an effect that benefits the player entirely.

Playability: 7/10 – Decent mana base, evenly costed creatures, overally, the deck plays very nicely. The biggest flaw is to have little means to trigger Worldslayer (that should be the center of the deck): the deck has only 4 cards with evasion.

Overall Score: 7/10 – I liked the name, the description was short but sweet, and playing the deck was pretty fun (even though I couldn’t land a single Worldslayer hit when testing…).

SCORE: 22/30

Thanks a lot for judging, shaitan666, it's a tough job!

Congratulations, Tresserhorn! I don't think I've used Asmira since I opened her, but she's always on my mind.

I purposely ommited all the submissions that didn't get at least the 7th place.
If you really want to, PM me and I'll show you how your deck did. :)

Shaitan666 - Thank you very much for judging this contest! If you wouldn't mind, can you just post the scores for the other participants? I think a lot of people will be asking you for their scores (myself included). :)

Well, I was PMing people who asked for their results, but if you insist, I can just put all the scores here. I haven't written an introductory text for each of the decks, but if you guys give me some more time, I'll do so.

BTW, you're very welcome Streetz! (I didn't include your deck in the competition, you're the contest's host! hehe, still, I can judge it, no prob)
