∞CB Common Rules
Your deck is composed of X cards which all start in your hand.
Your library contains 0 cards.
Random effects always go in their owner's opponent's favor, as do awkward Un-effects that can't be played out as XCB is played.
You can see your opponent's hand, so you make the best possible play.
You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card.
You play each opponent twice; once going first and once going second.

For each win, you score 3 points.
For each draw, you score 1 point.
For each loss, you score 0 points.

You CAN submit a deck that can win before the opponent's first main phase.
You CAN submit a deck that can force an opponent to lose two or more cards from his or her hand in a single turn.

Besides that the game works the same as a normal game of magic.
You may only play one land per turn unless a card specifically alters that.
You must have the mana to be able to play cards unless otherwise able to do so.
You and your opponent each begin with 20 life.

Rules for this ∞CB Round Specifically:
1) Deck size is determined by whichever player has the first turn each game. If Player Noonya uses a 2CB deck and Player Bidness uses a 33CB, the first round will be played as if it was 2CB and the second round will be played as 33CB. This gives advantages and disadvantages to all XCB sizes.

2) You may only play up to 4 of every Magic card in existence, as per normal Magic rules. Not quite infinity, but close enough.

3) Send me your lists in order of how you want them played. Whenever you are limited your cards will be chosen in the exact order so if you send me:
1 - Black Lotus
2 - Show and Tell
3 - Form of the Dragon
4 - Mishra's Factory

If you face a player with a 3CB deck one game you won't be able to use the 4th card - Mishra's Factory.

4) This is a Special Round and has no effect whatsoever on the continuing XCB, the next of which will be Round 11 with the same cards banned regardless of who wins this round.

Banned List
Nothing. Un-cards, promotional cards, and ante cards are all allowed (though ante obviously won't do anything).

Keep in mind that if a card specifies that you sing and dance or something equally ridiculous, it will be treated like a random effect and will work in your opponent's favor.

Sign up: You have until September 21st to send in your decks.

BIG HINT: Playing a one- or two-card deck may give you some easy wins, but it's obviously to your advantage to play every single card there is (making sure you can deal with the smaller ones too). Therefore, smaller decks will be awarded extra points as follows:

1-5 cards: 15 points
6-20 cards: 10 points
21-50 cards: 5 points
51+ cards: 0 points

(Seeing how there are over 15000 cards, each of which you can have up to 4 of, + unlimited basic lands... yeah. :))

Any deck that goes first against me that has LESS than 9 cards is mostly likely going to be a draw - however I do have a chance of winning. To go against me, you're gonna need a lot of cards...

3. You could, but firstly you have to remember that if anyone plays a smaller deck than you, you'll be screwed when they go first, and secondly that you won't get any bonus points. Thirdly:

You will, like Ryu said, unless you have Spellbook or something - and it's not gotten rid of.

And finally, just for that, I may have to tack on an ******* Tax of -X points, where X is equal to the number of cards you have -50. (Ok, I probably won't, but still. :P)

TWO MORE DAYS PEOPLE! Here's another (albiet sadistic) way of looking at it: While you may not like the idea of the round itself, you will just by joining with even a small deck make my life that much more hellish, as well as everyone else who has to wait for their scores. So there is that. :)

Sorry to interrupt, but I think the down time while we wait for results to go up is the best time to make this announcement.

For those of you who can never quite get their fill of the blind format and for those of you who would just like to try another variation, to supplement the great version that Maleficent runs, I would just like to make you aware of the weekly 5CB tournaments at MTGSalvation.

5CB has run consistently, every week, for the past year. For the past couple months, we have discussed various aspects of the rules and banned list, and the current format reflects these efforts. It is, I believe, diverse and balanced.

Additionally, in an effort to explore more options for the format, another version of 5CB will begin soon, probably later this week.

Rounds usually have between 10 and 15 people. Our last round had 28, due to one member advertising the format on a number of forums. Bigger numbers are great, since they give more valid results, and since MDV players have participated in the past I was inspired to mention the format here. I used a deck when given the proper amount of cards. Kills before either players first playable phase (Untap/Upkeep). Muahha. Main phases are for chumps.

Then I threw on as many Force of Wills, Commandeers, Redirects, and free Blue counters and free Blue fluff spells to mak those counters castable to make Male truly insane.

Still can't believe:

my 20 Simian Spirit Guide 20 Lightning Bolt deck was banished. Due to some only 4 cards each rule.

The winner at this point would be hells33kerd, but Cashew and tfp are very very close (not sure about FP, his games were relatively easy to figure out). So I'll give ye about a week to see if I screwed up, which is pretty likely. XD The winner will be announced October 12 unless everyone's ok with the scores. Then the new round will hopefully begin. :)

That was fun! There were some interesting matchups there. The 4x Sickening Shoal really foiled my aggro strategy well. I think I should be able to get the full 6 from pickles, but seeing how I'm nowhere near winning I wouldn't bother calculating exactly.

@guest, going first you win, so this is for pickles going first. During pickles's upkeep you can get the Caverns into play removing the Leyline (don't need it) and cast Gaze of Adamaro on him for 13, or hold the Spirit Guides to play some creatures. Either way, pickles can Thoughtseize your Zealot, and if you don't cast Gaze the most you would be able to play threat-wise are two Spirit Guides thanks to the limit, one of which dies to Lightning Bolt. After that, pickles's Bitterblossom wins.

If you Gaze him he'd go down to 7, then Thoughtseize your Zealot and play Bitterblossom (along with an Island). You can still play one Spirit Guide, which he'd Bolt. Then it's a matter of beating you in 7 turns.

1st: 6 life, one token, 2nd land.
2nd: 5 life, two tokens, 3rd land, attack (you're at 19)
3rd: 4 life, three tokens, 4th land, attack (you're at 17)
4th: 3 life, four tokens, 5th land and Fallen Angel, attack (you're at 14)
5th: 2 life, five tokens, attack (you're at 7 - four 1/1's + 3 from the Angel)
6th: 1 life, six tokens, attack for 8, killing you, or a max of 15 by using the Angel's ability.

Edit: oh I miscounted. I'll have 2 undiscarded guides, unseized guides. I can play one, discard the other, and have a creature to win if BitB doesn't come. That should do it then. (I think :o)

Now some of the other matchups :twisted:
Going second, I drop the Caverns and Leyline of Life Force. At the first opportunity I play Angel's Grace. Since it's split second, it resolves and I can't lose this turn.

My turn: If any shenanigans happen, I tap Caverns again and play a second Grace so I can't lose.

Main phase: Play plains. Next I remove all my guides from the game, and with GGGGRRRRW I play Flame-Kin Zealot and 4x SNOT. These are uncounterable, so they come into play. The SNOT combines to be a 17/17 with Haste, and the Zealot is a 3/3 with Haste. Attack for the win.

tfp: can Strip Mine my Caverns during his Main Phase. Thus in my upkeep he can quicken/channel/fireball FTW. I lose.
Maleficent: can Abolish my LeyLine, and then force my creatures. I lose.
Thunderhog: Sickening Shoal kills each creature after it comes in play. I lose.
Cashew: Leyline of Singularity reduces me to 1 SNOT at a time, but Cashew only has 1 threat and I can Angel's Grace out of that. Cashew's second attack strategy is creatures, but the Leyline limits Cashew to only 1 simian and 1elvish guide, and I can neutralize those by playing my own (Singularity). Cashew's final strategy is to keep the Leyline of Singularity in hand. Play a massive mana ramp (discarding 3 elves) and play out 3 simians. But then I play my 4 SNOT and 1 flamekin and overpower him. :D I think I win!
hells33kerd: main phase discard my hand. :(

Now if I'm first:
Thunderhog gets cards only up to Black Lotus, which means 1 Dryad Arbor as a threat. I get to play 4 Snots, and 2 spirit guides. 4 of these will be hit by Sickening Shoal, but the remainder will stay. That should win. :)
Cashew loses same as above.
hells33kerd: I can play out my Snots and Flamekin before Wheel hits, and attack. (Caverns are legendary so only 1 can be used.) Win!
tfp: 1 Cavern for blue, then guides for GGRR. Only allows 1 quicken. Fireball can't be played. Therefore flaming SNOT wins!

If I'm right on all these counts, that will add +15 to my score. :eek: (Probably I screwed up somewhere though. It's complicated.)

Cashew: Angel's Grace is pretty awesome. XD Ok... Cashew starts by playing Leyline of Singularity and removing 4 Guides, 2 of each (RRGG) and uses them to cast Seething Song (RRRRRG). With that he casts the other 3 Seething Songs (11 Red and 1 G). Manamorphose twice (9 Red, 1 Black, 1 Blue, 1 Green), and he can FoW his own card then FoW his FoW, giving him threshold, since the extra counters are useless anyway. With BR he casts Cabal Ritual (8 Red, 1 Blue, 1 Green, 5 Black) and then casts the other 3 for BBB apiece (8 Red, 1 Blue, 1 Green, 14 Black).

Now he can play the 2 left over Spirit Guides using RBB and GBB (7 Red, 1 Blue, 10 Black), that's 2 2/2's in play with 18 mana left over, which he can use to play Quicken and Torch you for 16.

Gaze can be removed for the Caverns, so... that + Plains + remove a Simian Guide = kill Cashew's Simian Guide, and the other 2 Simian Guides + Elvish Guide = Kill Cashew's Elvish Guide, leaving him with nothing and you with snot FTW. XD

we should do a round where You can submit a deck that can win before the opponent's first main phase and You can submit a deck that can force an opponent to lose two or more cards from his or her hand in a single turn, but using regular XCB (up to 5)....and just a thought, why don't we have unhinged and unglued legal in regular XCB?

Probably because they aren't legal in regular Magic, but on the other hand, this IS a casual site, and the usable Un-cards for XCB are pretty legitimate imo. XD Shall we have a vote?

:cheers: I don't know about genius here. Mine was really a metagame choice. With most of the decks being counter heavy and containing instakill combos, I chose a deck with uncounterable spells, including two that foil instakill.

Ironically, more than half my victories were simply due to going first with a small deck where my opponent had few threats left.
