These are a few cards on which I've been working. They're part of a fictional set that may or may not be part of the traditional Magiverse.
The story lacks detail so far, but I've worked out some basic framework. As a breakaway from Ravnica's multicolor load, this set will definitely bring out the hatred the factions have toward each other, in favor of self-dependence. The set will feature the best and worst of each color.
For the plot, and correct me if I'm being too generic, a horrid tyrant has emerged, and due to its ostensible invulnerability, has grown to be fearfully revered by its followers and dreaded by all others. A godlike nature is often implied in flavor text.
Anyhow, black takes reign as the other slices of the pie scramble into hidden corners of the plane, seeking refuge with strange, new creatures known as the Tal'den, who are rumored to have some connection with the reigning power. It needs more explanation, I know, but I hope I've sewn some potentially intriguing seeds here.
Here are some cards of the set I have so far:
Black:
Haunting Nighstalker - 4BB
Creature - Nighstalker
When Haunting Nighstalker goes to the graveyard from play, target creature gets -4/-4 until end of turn.
4/4
Rogue Assassin - 1B
Creature - Mutant
Fear
Skip your main phases.
3/2
Absence of Grace - 5BB
Sorcery
Target player sacrifices all creatures he or she controls.
Children danced, flowers bloomed. All was well, until He came.
White:
Salvation - 2W
Instant
Stampede (This spell costs 1 less for each creature that came into play this turn. )
Prevent the next 4 damage that would be dealt to target creature or player this turn.
Stalwart Blessings WW
Enchantment - Aura
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature has protection from instants.
As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil.
Green:
Fang and Claw - 4GG
Sorcery
Reveal the top five cards of your library and choose a creature card among them. If you do, put that creature into play. Then remove the rest from the game.
War Boar - 2GG
Creature - Beast
Stampede (This creature costs 1 less for each creature that came into play this turn. )
You may play War Boar any time you could play an instant.
2/2
One of the new mechanics on which I'm working: Auxiliary - You may sacrifice a permanent of this card's type with the same converted mana cost as this card when you play this instead of paying this card's mana cost.
It may seem hairy, but here's an example:
Tending Automaton - 3
Artifact Creature - Shepherd
Auxiliary(When you play this, you may sacrifice an artifact with converted mana cost 3. If you do, you may play this without paying its mana cost.)
Whenever a nontoken creature comes into play, put a 0/1 colorless sheep artifact creature token into play.
When He took power, the automatons were left to govern themselves.
1/2
As you can see, there is a lot of interaction between creatures and spells, mainly with the Stampede mechanic - This costs 1 less to play for each creature that came into play this turn.
Thanks for looking, please give comments/criticism.
