I'm getting too many ideas for my own good. Anyhoo, I don't know if this is tournament quality, but it may be (this is also Ravnica Block, none of that Kamigawa crap in here :P).

Well here's the ideal combo: [card:9d1602e3e6]Abyssal Nocturnus[/card:9d1602e3e6] + [card:9d1602e3e6]Lore Broker[/card:9d1602e3e6]. Yeah I could just say 'discard 2 cards now!', but if they don't have the cards, it doesn't work too well :). (The only other card that can make an opponent draw and discard in Rav Block easily is [card:9d1602e3e6]Compulsive Research[/card:9d1602e3e6].. meh.)

Another idea to get cards in their hand: Bounce! Hm...

Black and Blue is good for control, so basically keep creatures off the board, keep cards out of their hand, keep spells from resolving, and get some nice card advantage while beating down your opponent with the Horror and um.. something else. Would Infiltrator's Magemark be a good idea? That works well with [card:9d1602e3e6]Dimir Cutpurse[/card:9d1602e3e6] too..

Well through all this mess you're getting cards and discarding them too. Which means it's time for Dredge!! [card:9d1602e3e6]Darkblast[/card:9d1602e3e6], [card:9d1602e3e6]Nightmare Void[/card:9d1602e3e6], uh any good creature.. maybe splash green? Add [card:9d1602e3e6]Putrefy[/card:9d1602e3e6] and [card:9d1602e3e6]Life from the Loam[/card:9d1602e3e6]? Maybe not...

As long as you can keep them from doing anything it should work great. The Lore Broker is basically a draw and discard for you, mill them for 1, and pump the Horror. How about untapping that guy? :D

Possible list of cards to use:

Abyssal Nocturnus
Lore Broker
Compulsive Research
Darkblast
Cry of Contrition
Nightmare Void
Last Gasp
Disembowel/Repeal
Empty the Catacombs? (creatures for you, more discard targets for them)
Consult the Necrosages (draw for you, either for the opponent)
counterspells
Dimir Machinations
Clutch of the Undercity

And so my question, could it work?

(Another idea while I'm at it, how about [card:9d1602e3e6]Vedalken Plotter[/card:9d1602e3e6]? Basically build a deck to screw your opponent over :P play colorless mana lands, a bit of each color, [card:9d1602e3e6]Thoughtpicker Witch[/card:9d1602e3e6]es, [card:9d1602e3e6]Lurking Informant[/card:9d1602e3e6]s, the usual control...)

I've sort of made a deck that utilizes discard with [card:f578a869a0]Abyssal Nocturnus[/card:f578a869a0], but it was BW weenie mostly. The Lore Broker combo is really good, I never thought about that; I think the deck could be pretty good. Only problem is something like [card:f578a869a0]Cranial Extraction[/card:f578a869a0]. I suggest [card:f578a869a0]Megrim[/card:f578a869a0] also, so whenever they discard they take 4.

*sighs*. Is [card:6e4d6d4a08]Cranial Extraction[/card:6e4d6d4a08] or [card:6e4d6d4a08]Megrim[/card:6e4d6d4a08] in Rav Block? :P

Well the main problem with this deck is if I don't get the combo, I need to be able to use the other cards to win... somehow. I should be able to control the board pretty well... I think. I don't know how it would handle against Gruul or Boros though. I don't think there's a card in Rav to bounce everything :( not yet anyway

If only he triggered from [card:b6ed9889d4]Castigate[/card:b6ed9889d4]; B/W discard might have a chance. B/U is an interesting option but too shallow. This "idea" would be better as TII because you would be able to have hyppie but then again the 3 mana slot would be clogged.

And it would probably get pwned. B/U isn't too good for mana accel :? haha Hyppie and Megrim both cost 3. Yeesh. Well Hyppie wouldn't help too much because it wouldn't pump the Nocturnus until after it dealt damage (I think).

Hm too shallow eh? So I'm right about needing more ways to go about winning, or just surviving? Hm B/U is really good control and blue can help draw... but that can't be enough. How about splashing a color? Any color! lol Green for dredge/accel, white for more control (especially when Azorius comes out), red for um [card:3cfd74e841]Electrolyze[/card:3cfd74e841] :P more 3 mana cards!

Well... how about a reanimation sub-theme? I already have discard going on, may as well take advantage of it with recur ooor dredge (as said before). Just need something good enough to use.

with lore broker it could be possible U/B reanimator might be fun with targets Szadek, Lord of Secrets & Mindleach Mass. but in rav the best ways to reanimate would be doppleganger, & vigor mortis (arghhh more 3 drops!). trying to make a nocturnus deck would really strain a deck at the 3 mana slot it is better as a 2 of rather than a centerpiece of a deck.

hyppie would trigger the nocturnus but it would be to late to have any effect. but it would still support a discard theme.

Well if everything costs 3 [card:c66dbc5cbc]Dark Confidant[/card:c66dbc5cbc] might be alright. Hehe Hunted Horror is a good reanimate target for the doppleganger.
