Hello everyone,
I can't believe I've waited this long to do this.
My name's Nathan, but I go by Nate-dawg, Carrolln, and/or Nateke.
I started playing Magic during the early fall of 2004, and I quickly became obsessed. Mostly, I played free-for-all multiplayer games and one-on-one's at the beginning, but as we've grown in experience as Magic players, we've been starting to get into other formats such as Emperor and 2hg. I went crazy on E-bay and at the local magic shop when i first started. I spent way too much money, and I've learned to cut back and buy only what I need to make a decent deck. Every once in a while, I will splurge. I have not played in a tournament yet, and I don't imagine I ever will. I would get way too intimidated. I build good (but not great) decks, but I'm on a budget, so I only spend money on cards that I think are worth it. Also, I have limited knowledge of sets and cards before Mirrodin, so that limits my ability in deckbuilding (and even playing).
I've been reading articles on MTG.com for about a year now, but only got into sites like MDV and MTGfanatic a couple months ago, and I haven't introduced myself until now. I've only posted a few messages on the MDV forums, and only a couple of my decks on MTGfanatic under the username Nateke. I will add more if I'm ever motivated.
I've moved away from where I first started playing Magic with a bunch of my friends. I only play Magic when I'm able to go visit them. There's a local shop here in town where I live, but I'm too intimidated by the players there to think about sitting down for a game. I feel like I'm intruding every time I go in there. Anyways, I really like MDV and its forums because everyone here seems really friendly and inviting. Sometimes, I read some nasty comments about noobs and "crappy decks" on MTGfanatic, and it's somewhat disconcerting, even though I do enjoy MTGfanatic's open deck-posting. I would only wish that people wouldn't be so territorial and would help new players and newcomers feel comfortable with constructive criticism instead of outright rudeness. In any case, I feel at ease posting here where I see very little, if any, rudeness at all.
I hope to keep posting more often and become a respectable poster on the forums. Maybe I will even write some articles in the future. I will enjoy getting to know everyone. I hope this is a proper introduction.
Thanks for getting to know me,
Carrolln
Oh... My favorite Magic card? [card:6dcf4e399b]Fireshrieker[/card:6dcf4e399b]. When I first started playing, I think I ran 4 in every deck I played, and I joked that I would buy every Fireshrieker in existence and run a monopoly on them. Now the card is kind of a running gag among my circle of friends. I still throw a few of them in decks for kicks.
