The crowd settles as the lights in the theater each go out in turn, slowly descending the room into a deep blackness that hums with the whispers from those in the back rows.

Slowly, a single candle flame makes its way from far off in the distance to the front of the stage and slowly grows in brightness; until it reveals its bearer.

Ladies and Gentlemen; Boys and Girls; Assorted Demons and Angels; Those how have Fallen and Those that have Risen – Welcome to Fit the Flavor; Luther Style!

The crowd roars its approval.

First folks, a bit of history:

Way back in the dark ages of the net; When Yusuke was still an active writer and Tekk hadn’t discovered his fascination with animated ladies in scant clothing, there existed a contest of Legendary status, brought forth into creation by that Riftwalker of a Titan Streetz. Eons passed, and then the Elite Poster known to us all as Your Worst Nightmare brought it back from beyond the veil. But now; having seen off the stiff competition of my peers, it’s Luther’s time to bring forth this amazing event – Fit The Flavor!

Here’s how this contest works; I’m going to post three separate pieces of Flavor Text here, which you will then use to design and submit a card with. At which point the three judges (myself included) will do their thing. But here's the snag - The top three contestants of each round will become the next rounds judges.

Now your card can be of any design, use any existing mechanic and can utilize any creature type – it could be a Planeswalker, it could be a Legendary Enchantment, and it could even be a Split Card with one side creature, one side instant. The only rule is that it MUST FIT & FEATURE THE FLAVOR TEXT!

Exciting isn’t it? But having made the transition from player to judge, I can whole-heartedly agree with YWN: “It's not just pink bananas and dancing with toothbrushes.” by a very long way. Posting a flavor text for others to build cards around and having the power to judge them is quite the power trip (The fact I beat the [Order] makes it sweeter), but you'll need to do it with a certain level of seriousness and professionalism. I can only forewarn you that once you see how all the strings are pulled behind the curtain; this contest will never seem the same again…

So how are ‘We Judges Three’ going to be scoring your cards in a fair and balanced manner; by using the system laid down by those who passed before us:

The cards will be judged on a set rubric out of 25.
/10 pts - Adherence to Flavor
/5 pts - Card Balance (proper casting cost, power level, etc)
/5 pts - Design Fundamentals (color pie, tribe traits, etc)
/5 pts - Creativity

The judges that will score you this round are:
– Luthervamplord
– Ryuzaki
– Maleficent

Each judge will score each card based upon these results and the totals will then be added together and averaged out; so like last time this contest could level out to be a close call.

But you didn’t come here to listen to me talk about rules and regulations – you came here for flavor text and that is what I’m here to give you:

Flavor 1:
Time is like watching the tide: With enough patience, you can learn its ebbs and flows.

Flavor 2:
Honor is outdated; Love is Fleeting; Pride is the Mantle of the Smallest Man: War is Eternal.

Flavor 3:
Where I walk; I walk alone. Where I travel; none have traveled before me. I sleep with the living; and rise with the dead.

And now you ask why there are three flavor texts. Because YWN did it before me, and why ruin a perfectly good format when it works?

Rather important notes:

You can choose which flavor text to use, but you can only submit one card.
Specify which flavor text you are using; without it your card is invalid.
Submissions are posted here; all other comments are to be made in the provided thread only.
If you didn’t participate in the last round; don’t worry. All are welcome to join in at any time.
TEXT BASED ENTRIES ONLY: This means no images, no outside links to images and no mana cost images – 123WUBRGXYZ only.
The deadline is 28/03/08: Any cards submitted after this date will be ignored.
You will have until 30/03/08 to make alterations to your card; consider it a gift from my cold heart to yours.
But the single most important rule to this format:

HAVE FUN!!!!

EDIT:
This round of Fit the Flavor counts for the MSS; scoring works as follows:
[Contestants]*1.5 - ([Placement] - 1) * 1.5 = Points awarded.

So, if we have say Twenty people participate then the person who scores top will receive 30 points! (20*1.5 - 1.5(1-1) = 30)

So what does this mean to you? The more people you can get to join this contest - The more points that are up for grabs! So get your fellow clansmen and posters to join in now!

Carmilla, the First Vampire - BB
Legendary Creature - Vampire
Shroud
At the beginning of you upkeep, tap Carmilla, the First Vampire unless you put a -1/-1 counter on another creature you control.
Where I walk; I walk alone. Where I travel; none have traveled before me. I sleep with the living; and rise with the dead.
3/3

This card is based off of the book Carmilla by Sheridan Le Fanu. If you have read the book you will understand the flavour behind the card. If not check the spoiler.

Carmilla was the First Vampire Novel ever printed (It pre-dates Dracula by 13 years I believe). It the novel Carmilla feeds on young girls. She get close to each one by becoming their friend in a somewhat sexual manner. When Carmilla, and her prey have started to bond She [Carmilla] begins to slowly feed on her prey until she dies. Carmilla they moves on to find her next meal.

Although the Flavourtext choice is mainly because of the fact Carmilla is the first Vampire Novel.

Endless War 2 :r::r:
Enchantment [rare]
At the beginning of each players upkeep, Set aside all nontoken creatures in play. Starting with you, each player chooses one of the cards set aside and puts it into play under his or her control. Repeat this process until all those cards have been chosen.

All creatures have haste.
All creatures attack each turn if able.
All creatures block each turn if able.

Honor is outdated; Love is Fleeting; Pride is the Mantle of the Smallest Man: War is Eternal.

flavor #2
the reason behind the first ability of the card is to demistriate* that there is no honor or love, nor pride in these creatures, the last ablitiy is to show that, even if they have no alligence* the fight continues on.

Flavor text 2:

Taurvi, The Destroyer 4RR
Legendary Creature - Demon {Rare}
Haste
RRR: All other creatures you control gain +2/+0 and haste until the end of combat. Play this only at the beggining of your combat phase, before attackers are declared.
At the beggining of your Combat Phase, if ~ is in your hand, you may sacrifice 2 target creatures you control. If you do, put ~ into play tapped. ~ deals damage equal to the sacrificed creatures power total to target creature or player.
"Honor is outdated; Love is fleeting; Pride is the mantle of the smallest man; War is Eternal."
[3/3]

Taurvi the Destroyer is one of the six arch-demons of the Zoroastrianist religion. I guess he fits into the "all I want is war" theme. The mechanics I used reflect mostly the flavour text. Taurvi despises Honor in battle, cheating himself into play. He laughs at Love and Pride, being able to consume 2 brothers in arms just to feed himself, to fuel his thirst for battle by causing some mean damage, showing no feelings for his brethren, looking them down only as tools for war. War is all he wants, and his thirst is reflected on his first ability, giving promises of power to his brethren, but never caring for their safety.

Harald Hardrada 3RRGG
Legendary Creature-Human Berserker
When ever a creature you control attacks it gets +2/-2 and gains Double Strike until end of turn.
2GGR, Sarifice a land, Discard a card: All creatures you control gain +3/+3 and Trample until end of turn.
Honor is outdated; Love is Fleeting; Pride is the Mantle of the Smallest Man: War is Eternal.
6/2
{Rare}
Explanation

Honor is out dated: The brutality of war is represented is the power increase and decrease in defense and Double Strike

Love is Fleeting: That due to the lower defense the creatures will be destroyed quicker

Pride is the mantle of the smallest man:The decrease in hand size, for this could be referring to mages (smallest man) and their knowledge (Pride) is taken away.

War is eternal: the war will consume all lands and the victor will be left with a barren landscape.

Name: A Nordic warlord that attempted to conquer England (unsuccessfully), I connected this to the destruction of the land.

Sveth, Neurotic Psychopath 3BB

Legendary Creature-Zombie Abomination

Whenever another creature you control comes into play Sacrifice ~

Whenever another creature you control comes into play, if ~ is in your graveyard, return ~ to play.

If a creature you control is put into a graveyard from play, remove it from the game instead. 2/3
"Where I walk; I walk alone. Where I travel; none have traveled before me. I sleep with the living; and rise with the dead.
"

Heres where the flavor ties into the creature.
Where I walk; I walk alone. Where I travel; none have traveled before me.- this part refers to the fact where no other creature you control can be put into a graveyard (he is alone)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I sleep with the living; .-this part refers to when a creature comes into play, he is in the graveyard (sleep with the living)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and rise with the dead.- and finally, when a creature is put into the graveyard from play return ~ to play (rise with the dead)

i think i did a very good job with the whole flavor idea.

Non-argumentative defense:
Yes, I do mean War, the Second Horseman of the Apocalypse (or Third, depending on the interpretation you're refering to). Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Horsemen_of_the_Apocalypse) actually has a nice read about them, if you don't know them already.

Wording comes from Butcher Orgg, if you're for some reason confused about it. Relate to its official rulings for any doubt.

I have no idea why most words in the flavor text were capitalized, but I took advantage of it. Note that in mine War isn't italiced.

Stretching the Thought 1BU
Scorcery
Choose one - Draw a card, or target opponent discards a card.
Remove Stretching the Thought from the game with two time counters on it and it gains suspend.

Patience - I couldnt think a better suited mechanic for this word than the recurring suspended spells from time spiral block.
Ebbs and flows - draw / discard :)
