Ok I'm currently involved in a mtg the gathering draft with a twist. First off the draft is using what we call the big draft box. The big draft box contains 1 (and only 1 unless the card is in multiple sets) of every card of every set up to the final set of the onslaught block. There are some exceptions like power 9 and some other missing cards. Now the draft format is as follows we start at unlimited (there is no alpha or beta set and also no following base sets i.e. no revised fourth etc).

We are basically picking in rounds, so round one you select your picks for unlimited you select more than 1 card because some people might select the same the same card so you might enter 5 picks and get the first card on your list that someone hasnt either picked at the same level as you and hasnt been picked by someone at a higher level

i.e. if your picks were
1.sinkhole
2.hypnotic specter
3.dark ritual

and someone else had
1.sinkhole
2.black knight

and a third person had
1.hypnotic specter

person 4
1. bad moon
2. sinkhole
3. vampiric tutor

player 5
1.bad moon

then you would get dark ritual
person 2 would get black knight
and person 3 would get hippie
player 4 would get vampiric tutor

On the next round sinkhole would be up for grabs again as it wasnt able to be given to anyone in the first round. Each round you can decide to continue in the set you were previously in or move to the next set (you must take at least one card per set). So after getting dark ritual in my first pick I decided to move on as alot of people were fighting over the alpha stuff and went into antiquites.

Ok given this I've started and decided to go Black something, with discard and possibly land destruction. I've been thinking alot about adding red or green to help with the land d theme.

So far my picks have been Dark Ritual, City of Brass

Obviously next pick I am going to go for strip mine but there is one other player who might be going for this aswell.

I'm looking for some advice on what my key picks should be and also which cards I should be trying to fill my deck with. I'm after some reasonable 1 drops 2 drops and 3 drops. And I still havent thought of a decent win condition

Currently Im looking at the following cards
duress,
hymn to tourach
smoke stack
mishras helix
phyrexian negator
dark ritual I can get up to 5 of these because they are in so many sets
stone rain up to like 4 of these
death cloud
dingus egg
ankh of mishra
tangle wire
trinishphere
pox
icy manipulator
ring of gix
cursed scroll
dark confidant
distress
phyrexian arena
smallpox
mox diamond
nights reach
megrim
augur of skulls
larceny
pillage
jokulhaups
ashen ghoul
mind warp
mind ravel
necropotence
fumerole
fire covenant
jesters cap
mind stab thrall
worms of the earth
blight
nether void
greed
cursed rack

I think I will be playing against maybe 1-2 combo decks, 3-4 control decks, 1 beat down deck

Thanks for any help if you have questions don't hesitate to ask

first off, welcome to the forums. :)

now to your deck. You may ant to start off by putting it in tags and giving the quantity of each card in the deck. For help with that read the sticky forum for info on that. all you have to do is put [deck=DECKNAME]then your deck[/deck*]. Just omit the * while putting it in. DECKNAME would be what the title of your deck is. this makes it easier for people to help you wout with your decks. i would do that first and then people will start to help you.

Hmmm, land destruction....

Definitely Strip Mine if you can get it. Mind Twist is devastating. You can't go wrong with hitting as many stone rains as possible. Pillage seems like a really good choice in case someone picks some crazy artifacts. Rishadan Port is flat out mean.

For the longer game I'd include some sweepers too like Damnation, Mutilate, Decree of Pain, and maybe Wildfire if you throw in some fat guys.

Hmmm, some other cards... Dwarven Driller will keep nailing them for 2 damage. Avalanche Riders is solid. Duress, Hymn To Tourach, Thoughtseize will help you pick apart their hand. Maybe even Wrench Mind and Augur of Skulls.

You also need a way to win the game. Shah of Naar Isle seems to just let them draw cards they won't be playing while giving you a monster for cheap. Crater Hellion is pretty awesome. Hunted Dragon can be really nasty. Rorix Bladewing too. Laquatus's Champion is crazy.

I dunno, I'm not that great with land destruction decks, but maybe some of these choices helped. Remember you have to be killing their lands at a fairly high velocity. But you also need a way to win the game.

Skull Cage?

I'm anything but an expert on this format, seeing how this is the first time I've ever heard of it, but my past experience with every other format is that LD is just straight up bad. Now, this is different because it really feels like more of a modified constructed format than a draft format. With so many Stone Rains floating around (its more than four, SR is the most printed card in Magic not counting basic lands), maybe you can make it work. The problem is that you need to have a serious redundancy in your deck, and in limited serious redundancies are very difficult to pull off.

I just have one continuity question, though...you say that you're only going up through Scourge, yet you list Smallpox and Dark Confidant and Trinisphere as potential picks...those all came after Scourge.
