View Full Version : 3CB #15: Crying Out For Help
Death_By_Beebles
08-15-2007, 09:46 PM
Welcome to 3CB #15. Please read this carefully.
This round is the a special round, for 3 reasons.
1) This round is "I Grant Your Wish!" round. This round, you have a free 4th card - any other Wish cards from Judgement, or the Glittering Wish card from Future Sight. Playing the Wish is free (and cost modifiers will not change it's freeness), but you must pay to play the card you Wished for. You have a 2 card sideboard to Wish from. Channel is banned. Wishes can not be targeted by discard spells. The Wish is only free the first time you play it.
2) This is the 15th 3CB!
3) This is my last 3CB that I am moderating. 3CB, and all XCB used to be all about the fun of the game for me. I endured the moderation in order to have others play the game with me. However, my interest in the game has waned, and I find my self dreading 3CB because of moderation. To be extremely blunt, I hate to moderate 3CB, and I've hated it from day 1. However, I thought that it might be able to revive itself given the right player base.
That's why I'm asking for your help. I want 3CB to continue, so I'm extending an open invitation to anyone who wants to judge it. (I'll be PMing some specific people about taking over for me, but anyone is welcome to take over). If there is initiative, and there is a will to play the game, then a moderator will appear from this.
If not - it has truly been a pleasure playing 3CB with you all.
If you have any questions about 3CB that this thread can not answer, please check out these (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=5310) three (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=5700) articles (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=7544), written by GoblinBoy back in the 3CB hayday.
I've also written two primers on 3CB lands, which you can find here (http://www.magicdeckvortex.com/mdvarticle0212.htm) and here. (http://www.magicdeckvortex.com/mdvarticle0232.htm)
My first 3CB metagaming article can be found here, (http://www.magicdeckvortex.com/mdvarticle0240.htm) and the follow up to that article can be found here. (http://magicdeckvortex.com/mdvarticle0247.htm) These articles show you the process I go through every week to figure out my decklist.
Good luck everyone!
--------------Submission Deadline--------------
Please, PM your decks to Death_By_Beebles at either MDV or MTGS. The deadline for submission is 12AM EST August 25th, 2007.
--------------Deck Name Theme--------------
There is no theme this week. Most humorous title gets 5 POTM pts.
--------------Rules and Submission Guidelines--------------
Your deck is composed of 4 cards which all start in your hand (one of which is either a Wish from Judgement, or Golden Wish. This wish can be played without paying its mana cost).
Your library contains 0 cards and you have a 2 card sideboard.
Random effects always go in your opponent's favor.
You can see your opponent's hand, so you make the best possible play.
You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card.
You play each opponent twice; once going first and once going second.
For each win, you score 3 points.
For each draw, you score 1 point.
For each loss, you score 0 points.
Three rules restrict the kind of deck you can send. They are:
1.You may not submit a deck that can win before the opponent's first main phase.
2.You may not submit a deck that can force an opponent to lose more than one card from his hand per turn.
3. You may not submit a deck that uses a card on the 3CB banned list.
Other than the aforementioned, everything is handled exactly like a real game of Magic.
If you want to play, PM me a message with a heading similar to " 3CB Round #X", where X is the current round number. The format for the message should be:
Deck Name
Card #1
Card #2
Card #3
Wish Card

I think I have an interesting idea for this round... I'm gonna try a rogue deck. Hey, it worked for me last time. :D
EDIT: I was going to do the following deck, but I think DBB woulda sent assassins to my house. Lol. :ohnoes:
Card 1 - Black Lotus
Card 2 - Krark's Thumb
Card 3 - Mana Clash

This is truly depressing. I feel bad you have to leave DBB, and I hope you find someone to fill in your place, I'm really injoying these games. I'll send a deck as soon as I think of a sideboard.
Edit: Is there going to be a theme for names this time or just to go for it.

No, you don't have to play the card you wish for. You do have to pay for it if you do play it.
Also - the Wish is only free the first time you play it, it can not be targeted by discard spells, and it CAN be countered.

At least one of your cards have to be a mana source. Black Lotus, Mishra's Workshop, and Mishra's Factory are usually the most popular ones along with the dual lands. Like Bayou.

What I wanna know is... Why are we actually taking the time to explain this stuff to you when everything you need to know is in the links in DBB's initial post? If you're too lazy to read through those, then you shouldn't play.
On a completely unrelated note...
I was going to do the following deck, but I think DBB woulda sent assassins to my house. Lol. :ohnoes:

I just realized that this deck is banned.

Technically, it does have the potential to win before my opponent first main phase. LOL!

No. It's a draw. Unless in those turns you can beat them down for the win.

Technically not, because "random effects always go in your opponent's favor".

I do agree with this statement. The rules aren't exactly hard to find.

Note that the wish card for this round is free to play the first time you do it (relevant to make sure you can't recurse it from the graveyard, since there probably exists some infinite combo if you can play it free all the time.)

That came around from me pointing out to DBB that you could just go infinite wish for wish to build up as much storm as you want, making for some pretty degenerate decks.

It was said on the first page and on the second page, for a total of 4 times now that you can't.

Besides the fact that you're supposed to PM the deck to DBB, it's not very strong. The opponent, with perfect knowledge, will hold their creature back until you've played your Nekrataal, if it would otherwise win. Thus you don't play Nekrataal, and it's a draw. Your sideboard is also not taking advantage of the format. You could play something like (Inspired by your deck): -
Black Lotus
Urborg
Horobi, death's wail
-
Burning Wish
-
Duress
Ostracize That deck can kill a creature a turn with Urborg, as well as take away a nonland card from the opponent.

No it can't. To use the Burning Wish every turn, you'd have to sac the Black Lotus for Red. In which case you'd have a floating red mana, but a black spell. Try again. :D
Seriously, read the whole deck before you post. It's obvious that he didn't mean you'd Burning Wish every turn, which in this deck would be pointless anyway. The comma means that two thoughts are connected, not that they're the same. If he meant that he could both discard and kill every turn, which would again be pointless since the opponent only has three cards, he would have written, "This deck can kill a creature and take away a nonland card from the opponent every turn." Further, Burning Wish is free the first time Halinn plays it, and he has no way to return a wish. He gets black mana from Urborg, which conveniently reads: TAP: Add B to your mana pool.
Halinn's point was that the deck combines Urborg and Horobi, Death's Wail to kill any number of creatures and also has access to first-turn hand disruption.

You don't play the deck. The moderator, DBB for this round, plays a virtual game between each of the decks, assuming correct play from each player. The final score for a deck is the sum of a deck's wins and draws.
Just twiddle your thumbs and wait for now. DBB has said in the MTGS thread, "ATTENTION: This is going slowly due to band camp. I should have time to work on it and have it done shortly."

ThunderHog, no offense, but your deck's only strategy that works is to play Magus of the Moon. the rest of it doesn't even make sense.
Edit: Not to say Magus of the Moon won't screw my deck over. Yeah, and all-land deck just wasn't right for this one. Oh well, I hear Goblinboy is hosting the events now, maybe next time.

Magus of the Moon was the entire point. It basically says that I win every game that I play first on. :D
I SB'd Shattering Spree so that I can screw over people playing Mishra's Workshop. The Chain Lightning was for decks that WEREN'T playing Workshop.

And sethrpg's deck will win on it's own second mainphase, because of summoning sickness

Ahh, right... Forgot about that minor detail...
DBA's point is just that you're essentially playing a two-card deck of Black Lotus and Magus of the Moon, whereas everyone else is playing 4 card decks. Ball Lightning is completely useless. Chain Lightning and Shattering Spree have the incredibly low chance of forcing a draw, which isn't even something you want, but since people didn't rely on a single artifact or creature surviving for a turn without protection (except NMR!), they really do nothing either. You got 18 points; 2 against NMR!, 6 against DBA, 3 against Caldera42, 3 against Halinn and 4 against Wrath_of_Dog.

Moderators are those members who manage entire subforums, like Magic General or Casual Deck Discussion. Humor and Games does not have a moderator. So, no, you would not get that title. You can start something here. I'd just recommend that you coordinate it with Goblinboy's 3CB on MTGS. MDV has a small enough community that it really benefits from being able to compete with the members of that site.

Congrats to:
1st: Mogg and Death_By_Beebles - 79 pts
3rd: Chimpanzee - 78 pts
I'm not sure what Goblinboy wants to do with POTM, so if there are corrections to scores, post them on MTGS, and Goblinboy can look over the changes.
It has been a pleasure being a mod for 3CB. Thank you all for playing 3CB with me.

Actually, it's (19+18+17+...+2+1)*2 = 380 games, but it's still a lot of games. Consider that some decks are the same and some games are just extremely obvious, though. Still one of the bigger rounds, gamewise.

I sure hope someone picks up the game here, I'm already in two forums and don't feel like joining MTGSalvation. No offense to them, I just don't agree with a site with that many flame wars on virtually everything, especially when it comes to rumors. Besides, I've been a n00b enough times to know it can and should be avoided.

I think I could do it if I just did it here. I would probably end up changing a couple things, solely based on the fact that I've never done one before.
Things that might end up being changed:
- Point system
- Slightly different gameplay
- Banned List
- POTM wouldn't exist. Instead, it would go by rounds. "POTM" would be reset after every 5 or 10 rounds.
- Some other minor changes
So, if anyone agrees with me taking it over. I'll give it a try. If it turns out that I'm no good at it, then I'll be glad to give it to someone else. I would at least like to try though.
