You know the drill! This is, I suppose, similar to the 'favourite colour' thread, but....well, slightly different I guess :P.

I was just wondering what are all of your preferred playing styles? (=

Personally, I'm a bit oldschool in that I love simple beatdown :). The problem is that control is very popular these days, and beatdown decks have a tough time with them, what with all the counterspells and fancy card-drawing they have!

Playing beatdown in today's environment is kinda tough =/. Although things are looking good for the Gruul so far :). I'm very excited for them because even though Izzet look amazingly strong, Red and Green are my two favourite colours :D.

What is the favourite method of you guys when it comes to stomping your enemies into the dust pile of history? :P

I'm a combo player to my delicious core. I admit my main deck is Recur, but only because I like the possiblities in Buried Alive.

Languid stall followed by furious beatdown. Anyone who's played me knows I set up a hardcore defense, turtle up for a bit until I'm untouchable, and then strike with something huge to the face.

Control.
There's thrill in certain combo and aggro, but utilmately.. control is my favorite overall deck. Whether you deck is intricately build or simple build.. every game is different. In my opinion, control offers the most interaction with another player.. you want to watch their expression, you want to figure out what their deck is about as soon as possible (since I play either online or with friends who pumps up a new deck out of everywhere). That's the thrill for me in playing.. figuring out the opponent's deck and deal with it accordingly.

It varies between everything really. I'm comfortable with all styles, whether you hand me burn, MUC, Heartbeat, and everything in between (but casually, of course).

I'm either combo, beatdown or burn. Or all three of them  . I really hate control.

I shift between weenie, weenie tank, and weenie burn. But then again I only play casual, so they're odd variations of those.

my main deck is a cheapo life deck, but i LOVE combo beats. ya know, where you do some horrendouslly juge combo, just to knock em down with something big. like [card:058312116c]Ancient Ooze[/card:058312116c] or Storm the Herd XD

ARTIFACTS!!!! I have an artifact deck with only 9 non artifact nonland cards.
I love recycling and when I am started some artifacts come up to 6 times in play in one turn. You should see the face of my opponent when I start doing that.

Beatdown + Burn = Pure Power

In short, that's me. I get the most fun out of beating my opponents into submission, whether it be with big creatures or pure damage. Both have a place in all my favorite decks.

Why you ask? It's just me. I like straight-up fights, or in other cases than fights, straight-up honesty. I like being direct. So that's how it manifests itself in MTG.

And Gruul look like my haven. :D Of course, combining it and Rakdos could have it's uses.

Lol I like Golgari.

My deck runs [card:b48927e494]Taunting Elf[/card:b48927e494] + [card:b48927e494]Gaze of the Gorgon[/card:b48927e494]. And a few basic Golgari cards, with [card:b48927e494]Golgari Germination[/card:b48927e494] as a really annoying backup card.

Control-Lockdown, mainly Blue/Artifact although I'm starting to see the beauty in Red control (Ponza ripped me wide open last year at Regionals) so I'm starting to experiment with Red/Blue control decks so the invention of the Izzet guild was a godsend for me!

The weirder the better! So beatdown, control, burn... *yawns* boring. Synergistic stuff is the most fun (Orzhov + Golgari!!!), though I don't think other players like me taking 10 minute turns... other than that I like messing around like stealing everything and copying stuff (yay Izzet! Replicate those Dominates!).

My style is ever shifting. Every deck I have does something different. I'm acasual gamer so it always keeps my friends guessing.

Notable titles of my decks(Yes I give my decks titles)

Infinite Defense
Reins of Humility
Laccolith Love
Burnination
Go To Hell Black

these are my favorites. maybe I'll post them at some point.

My stile is forever black. Hurt me a bit to wipe the ground with my opponent's face. I've never seen what life gain is. Maybe that's why I like suicidal black/red decks so much. Tell me seriously, would any of you ever use an [card:588466629f]Ebony Drake[/card:588466629f], a [card:588466629f]Flesh Reaver [/card:588466629f]and a [card:588466629f]Phyrexian Negator[/card:588466629f] all in the same deck? Beating and Burnination needs afterthought as well :P

Well i have to go against the grain and say i am a pretty mutch hardcore spike. Control/Combo is more fun but oh so bad for the head/back in longer tournieslike 8+ rounds. I played 15 rounds of dimir(Ub in standard dimir mill in one draft and loamatog in ext.) and 3 rounds of boros at worlds, playing boros felt like heaven(i even 3-0ed :) ).

To play the deck so you are able to win prolly dont require mutch thought, but to play the deck so you maximise your abilety to win at every turn in the game thats pretty hard.

Maleficent
02-13-2006, 03:49 AM
Yeah I forget the guy's name but someone that played Sligh in bigtime tournaments ended up using all the time in every round thinking everything over... and he about never lost if I remember right. With burn cards there's so many targets and you have to choose just the exact ones to maximize damage.

Combo-Control is sweet! Feel the pain of taking 1 damage a turn for the rest of the game until you die!! Bwahahaha!!! I have a bad habit of making impossible combos that I hardly ever get, but when I do it's oh so fun. Like 3-5 card things.. usually infinite. Though [card:ec36f3e87e]Power Conduit[/card:ec36f3e87e] + [card:ec36f3e87e]Quicksilver Fountain[/card:ec36f3e87e] and/or [card:ec36f3e87e]Decree of Silence[/card:ec36f3e87e] and infinite untapability is fun :D then throw in a [card:ec36f3e87e]Jixed Choker[/card:ec36f3e87e] for extra torture

I can't stand to make a normal beatdown deck. Even my GU one had [card:ec36f3e87e]Ensnare[/card:ec36f3e87e] in it (have to make the most of those Avatars of Might and Weatherseed Treefolk with Vitalizing Winds :P). And I think for Gruul I'll do something with [card:ec36f3e87e]Cloudstone Curio[/card:ec36f3e87e], Ulasht, and a bunch of little GR critters from a [card:ec36f3e87e]Soul Foundry[/card:ec36f3e87e] for pumping him. (oh yea, I now have a Giant Solifuge and 2 Burning Tree Shamans! I don't even like using them..)

I personaly use a bunch of diffrent styles of play...but mostly i stick to control or creature beat.

my more infomous decks have been
goblin hoard - haste creature beat + gernades
counter hell - over 25 diffrent counters with prodical sorcerers
burn out - many diffrent burn cards
flash pit - combo control with eather flash and death pits of wrath with burn and furnace of wrath
Selensia - creature beat with minor control via many tokens and glare of subdual, allong with photohydra+paria shield combo and loxdon heiarch combo

my current deck is a basic izzet deck that has yet to incorperate any kind of strategy or combo, but in it's current state has yet to even be fully tested and i havent gotten around to doing the propper trades i want yet.

I really like to play Recursion because it is able to put multiple threats on the Board when everybody else is thinking about how to survie the next 5 rounds. I've been playing since The Dark, and I like all three as I've played so much of each. Everytime I think I like beatdown best, I remember getting 2nd turn wins in type 2 with a [card:7351d93164]Yawgmoth's Bargain[/card:7351d93164] combodeck. Then I think of the 30 counterspell control version of [card:7351d93164]Oath of Druids[/card:7351d93164] and smile. This leads to memories of smashing Counteroath decks in tournaments with rogue [card:7351d93164]Overrun[/card:7351d93164] beatdown!
Ideally, I like building decks with two of these elements, and use the appropriate strategy for the matchup. Transformational sideboards are cool too!

I posted it in Casual. It's basically red burn...for 6 person multiplayer free for all. Hence the Trogdor title. It's just funny, I'm the last person most people expect to run burn, especially not in multi. The image of me with a deck that doesn't gain life is just weird, I'll admit.

I don't care playing control unless it's all cool synergy or some unique combo(s) or something. It's just soooo BORING. "Land, go." "Land, go." "Land, you can't do anything, go." Pfft you never do anything yourself and don't let the other person do anything, what's the fun in that?

you obviosly haven't played Cowardice Control (once again control combo) or crafty angel (yes yet ANOTHER combo control) i like decks that function to make a goal happen. surviving jites and savanna lions only to soar past with serra angel has its own reward. beating a player down with goblins just isn't rewarding when you chared your opponent's only creature.
