Congrats to FuDaWg45 of the MDV forums for winning 3CB Round #2! With the same deck as he won 3CB #1 with, no less!
You can check out the last round [http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=72027"]here.[/URL]
Round 3 begins with Abandon Hope hopping back into the banned list. My lack of knowledge was the primary reason it was banned, and because of that I apologize. Thankfully, no one used the card, so no harm done, right?
If you have any questions about 3CB that this thread can not answer, please check out these (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=5310) three (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=5700) articles (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=7544), written by GoblinBoy back in the 3CB hayday.
I've also written a primer on 3CB lands, which you can find here (http://www.magicdeckvortex.com/mdvarticle0212.htm).
*Check this area for new updates - I'm going to be writing more soon*
Good luck everyone!
--------------Submission Deadline--------------
Please, PM your decks to Death_By_Beebles at either MDV or MTGS. The deadline for submission is 12AM EST April 18th, 2007.
--------------Rules and Submission Guidelines--------------
Your deck is composed of 3 cards which all start in your hand.
Your library contains 0 cards and you don’t have a sideboard (Wishes fetch nothing).
Random effects always go in your opponent's favor.
You can see your opponent's hand, so you make the best possible play.
You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card.
You play each opponent twice; once going first and once going second.
For each win, you score 3 points.
For each draw, you score 1 point.
For each loss, you score 0 points.
Three rules restrict the kind of deck you can send. They are:
1.You may not submit a deck that can win before the opponent's first main phase.
2.You may not submit a deck that can force an opponent to lose more than one card from his hand per turn.
3. You may not submit a deck that uses a card on the 3CB banned list.
Other than the aforementioned, everything is handled exactly like a real game of Magic.
If you want to play, PM me a message with a heading similar to " 3CB Round #X", where X is the current round number. The format for the message should be:
Deck Name
Card #1
Card #2
Card #3

Deck sent.
The fact that the same person won with the same deck two different rounds in a row is a strong factor towards getting back to the vanishing part. But on the other hand, it IS really really cool what strange decks you can built when a lot of things that are good are still legal. Either resetting the list every 5 rounds or so, or only banning one card from the winning list would both be a possible consensus, I think.
The problem with vanishing was the lack of players. Though it does occur to me that we haven't tried vanishing with the larger MTGS community. I wouldn't recommend trying it any time soon as we first want to regrow the community that remembers the old 3CB :). But at some point, maybe we could try a month of vanishing and see how that goes.

Hmm, true, the traffic went up SIGNIFICANTLY from when I hosted it. I guess sometimes, you just have to give the people what the people want.
Anyways, the more the merrier, so maybe a month with vanishing, not the other way round ;)

hey guys!! how are you all doing?
Is this game about MDV-3CBplayers versus MTGsalvations-3CBplayers?
That would be so cool!
*just sent in my random lame-o deck to participate this round*
...To bad 3CB is not played with 5 cards ;) :paranoid: ...:D

I personally prefer vanishing. Maybe the community will request an extension of that month's format. :)
Wow, Yezz and P_P are both back. Amazing. Not that MDV was doing badly so far (go FuDaWg45! :D ), but it's nice to see people returning.

A brief analysis/summary :teach::
Vindicate shows its raw, unbridled power this week. With decks tooled out to run down MeatGrinder.dec ( #5 and #19 ), Vindicate proved too powerful for most decks to handle.
Yezzandrix from the MDV forums also made a very good metagame choice, with his deck (#22). Nether Spirit/Last Rites is a powerful combo deck, and using Last Rites to win the majority of his play first games, along with the resilience of a 2/2 undying attacker and blocker makes it a tough card to get around.
Also: Nai, your deck can't win. I wasn't completely sure the last time when you submitted it, but now I can say with a 95% accuracy that your deck will probably never be able to win a game.
Interesting decks for me this week were Feyd_Ruin's deck, Pingele_Pats' deck, and krizzlybear's decks.

Each deck was tooled to beat decks like FuDaWg45's. With their ability to destroy more than one card, these decks proved their worth throughout the round. Pingele_Pats is the slowest of the 3, but it sacrifices that one turn for the ability to kill something every turn after the 5th turn, forever. Unfortunately, losing that one turn proved to be enough to keep it from doing as well as the others.
As always, if there are any mistakes, post your corrections in this thread.
The new post will be up later this afternoon.
Doesn't SenorClown's deck break the multiple discard rule?
Against SenorClown (if you do count his deck):
I should have 6 points. I kill turn 3. How is the suspended stuff going to hurt me?
Yezzandrix

Hmm, I get zero points for round 13. Why? If I go first, I'ell let them discard the Lotus, and he cannot really cast anything, anymore.
15, I get 2 points. I think that should be 4. If I go first, I'll let them discard the Golem, so that he cannot win anymore. he then may or may not choose to play the scales. Then, I recurr my Spirit. He then MUST play the scales. Then he kills my spirit at some point. I then choose NOT to recurr the spirit for a trun, as recurring it is a "may"-optional ability. then, when the dust has cleared, and the scales has nuked itself due to nothing beeing left standing, I will recurr the spirit again and happily eat lifepoint.
Yummy :D

How does my deck lose to Magicianofthought's deck with vindicate? By the time vindicate hits, my whole arsinal is out. He can only kill one of the two things ripping him apart, and afterwards his factory is too small to steer the game in his favor... right? Maybe I missed something...
Yezzandrix
04-22-2007, 05:08 PM
Well, magicianofthought's deck isn't THAT cool, anyway. I mean, it cannot deal with the lame Anurid.dec. I mean, hey, Protection form black... No vindicating it, really. So number 7 versus 13 is not 6, it's 0... Looks like all these players complicate things a bit. I guess we will see quite a few people at the top before this is over... ;)
EIDT: THis is looking a bit weird, now. FuDa's deck was in the competition twice, Vindicating a pro-black one is difficult, and thus, he will get raosted by Lightnings overtime, and if the opponent uses Mangara of corondor, thatÄs a draw, in game one (round #15.) that is a total of 21 points less... I guess that justifies me beeing pesky like hell... ;) No offense ment, I never did such a large round, and I guess that it is a GREAT deal of work, divided onto two websites, and that matchup-table looks like a HELLUFALOT work, really. Slipups are a must, there, I think...

I suppose this is rather late...but it doesn't force a discard, so I don't think so? At TMD it's been allowed despite the no-multiple-discard rule.
Halinn
04-26-2007, 12:03 PM
What? It does force a discard if you have less cards in hand than your opponent at the time it hits. That means it can potentially cause more than one discard, and is thus against the rules. Same thing as Cabal Therapy, really.
Yezzandrix
04-27-2007, 06:10 AM
Well, I think that is to be debated. He never WILL cause multiple discard, really. HE will suspend a 5/5, first. The deck CAN play "empty-board-baloth", but in the rules-setup where you can not have multiple discard, he isn't focred to do. If the opponent keeps all cards in hand, he would just beat him down with a 5/5. There is no way the opponent could play only one card and force him to start supending the Balance. Therefor, if the opponent keeps cards in hand to act for the multiple-discard-rule, that wouldn't work. What DOES work is that the opponent could start playing cards once the baloth is on its way, thus forcing him to susppend the balance AFTER the baloth.
The deck per se isn't illegal. It CAN be played illegal, but that isn't required, really... But if played legal, it is far worse, as the balance can then no longer nuke critters, or hit your own, even. Well, it gets a lot more complicated, too...
Halinn
04-27-2007, 01:29 PM
If it can be played illegally, it is. That's like saying a first turn win deck would be allowed because it could choose not to play it's combo on the first turn.
If he has higher points than me, and I lose to it, the optimal play for me is to force a disqualification.
