MDV Article Archives - Sorted by Series

Current Article Series: (sorted alphabetically)
Ahead of the Rest.
This is a new name for an old series also known as the Top 30 lists, Top 20 lists, Top 10 lists, etc.  It has been given a new name so that anyone can continue it using creatures, spell types, artists, etc... with any subject matter.  It can be top 10, top 20, top 30, top 40.. whatever the author wants.
A Call Back to Vanguard.
This series has had many different names.  The first of which was Alternate Vortex by Yusuke.  Since he left MDV, several authors have touched on Vanguard which is a play variant.  The current author of the series is Luthervamplord.
Casual Collections.
If you are new to Magic and want to build a collection of cards $10.00 at a time, I would encourage you to check out this series from the very beginning.  Currently hosted by Cashew.
Dungeon of Malefict.
If you enjoy reading fantasy novels, this series is for you.  Lead by Maleficent, this series will take you into the bowels of Magic through story telling.
Editorials.
Seems basic... and it is.  Whether its Streetz, Tynion or DBB or another member of the site, all editorial-like articles will be catalogged here.
First Impressions
This series, by Chris Newton, is like a set review, except with his own added humor.  Typically, each new set will get a series of articles focusing on one or more colors from the new set.
Fit the Flavor.
This is a contest series originally started by Chris Newton but that has history before Chris took over the contest when Streetz started something similar in the old Magic Trading Post forum extension for MDV.  It's fun and definately worth a look.
Going Blind.
Going Blind is a series by Death_By_Beeble in which he talks about, analyzes, and tears apart a forum game involving three, four and five card hands.
If I Worked At R&D.
Luthervamplord is in charge of this series of card creation.  Each article he walks through an idea of making a card.  He then goes into some detail about how and why the card should be costed some way, adds some flavor and presents the final card for all to see at the end.
Irrational Love.
Have you ever loved a card or cards despite them being useless or under-par?  Or even mediocre?  Irrational Love is a series by Cashew that talks about some of these cards, while providing combos throughout the article.  It's fun.  It's cool. Check out this series.  You'll like it, for sure.
Mechanic Theme Week.
In April of 2009 the Writers Guild of MDV decided to do a theme week around their favorite mechanics.  Drathro provided the introduction for the week and the writers covered several mechanics over the course of the week.  Check it out!
MDV IDOL!
This is a compilation of all articles pertaining to the many MDV IDOL contests held on MDV.  Another project started by Sir Chris Newton.
MDV Theme Week.
In June of 2008 the Writers Guild of MDV decided to do a theme week around MDV, the Guild and anything relating to the site.  This series is really a theme week schedule but know that we may expand on the MDV Theme Week concept of writing in the future.  There were a lot of facets not talked about during the original theme week that will be expanded on in the future.
Memories of an Old Magic Player.
One of the first articles on Magic Deck Vortex, Memories of an Old Magic Player is a fan favorite.  Chris Newton, also known as Tynion, writes this series.  In it he reminisces on his past dealing with tournaments, metagames and playing Magic: the Gathering.  If you like stories and humor, this series is for you.
[MINI-ARTICLES].
These articles are typically split articles with two different authors covering a similar or contrasting topic.  MDV did a theme week in 2008 full of nothing by MINI articles.
Old Blog Archives.
Within these archives are all of the blogs from 2008 and 2007 that were originally posted in the Wordpress version of MDV's blog.  Wordpress was inconvenient for the users of MDV and thus the new blog can be found in the vB Forum.
One Card to Rule Them All
This series is similar to Single Card Strategies from WotC, Deck a Day from Star City Games and MTGS Minis on MTGSalvation except this one is on MDV.  The author takes one card and develops different ideas and at least one deck.  This short article series was started by John Streetz.
Pauper Chronicles.
Another Series by Death_By_Beebles -- this series talks about the Pauper deckbuilding format where all of your cards are commons.
Raiding the Dollar Bins.
One of the original article series on Magic Deck Vortex, Raiding the Dollar Bins focuses on the cheaper to build decks.  Started and still kept up by Death_By_Beebles, this is one of the more popular article series on Magic Deck Vortex.
Shifting Lineaments.
Originally this series was about a shifting of card names, all related to each other.  In other words, talking about all of the "Vortex" cards in magic.  However, Tynion, has bigger plans for it.
Tribal Coffee
This was originally started by Streetz to invigorate MDV with a little energy and tribal.  While Streetz wasn't able to focus on it, Cashew picked it up and added some flair to it.  If you like Tribal, you'll like this series.
Words from the Streetz.
Streetz's last name and handle seem to associate him with wrap and terms like Streetz-smart and Word on the Streetz.  And thus, this article series was born.  It's a cross between blog and editorial... usually about MDV site stuff.
Series that are looking for writers... or Retired Series.

Fictional Card Topics. Art Reviews

Magic Issues

Tournament Articles

Celixia Files.
Celixia is a fictional set of Magic Cards created by John Streetz.  This series takes a fun approach to talking about the cards and concepts of the set/block.
Creature Feature.
Tekkactus likes bugs.  And thus, his first article talking about some buggy creature type turned into a series of talking about different creature types.  Typically there's some decks and combos in each.
The Apprentice Magician.
This is the prodigy child of Amadeus.  In this series, Amadeus walks us through some basic and major Magic theory in a story-telling format.  You will NOT be dissappointed.
Taking Charge.
I'm a little unsure about the real focus of the series, but one thing is for sure: Ghurhgs (author) likes stories and history.
In the Prime.
This series is currently without an author.  Originally started by FIRE REIGN 2, he looked at old deck types and provided everything to know about them.
Exit 267
Exit 267 is an article series that focuses on rumors and spoiler for new sets.  Originally started by FiRE REIGN 2, it currently needs a new author.  If you are interested, please let Streetz know.
Ęther Pool.
Ęther Pool is a series originally started by Lionden_56 where the subject matter involved drafting.  While drafting isn't exactly casual, it can both be made casual and be extremely fun.
The Games People Play.
TGPP, for short, was started by Lionden_56.  Over the course of this series, LD56 talked about the different Magic: the Gathering variants including popular ones like Two Headed Giant, Points Magic and Chaos.
Delusions of Mediocrity.
One of Streetz's many series, Delusions of Mediocrity takes mediocre cards and makes fantastic decks out of them.
Forgotten Power.
Forgotten Power takes under-valued cards and proves their worth.  Currently written by Michael Zeora, he adds a certain style to the series that makes it a good read.  ConManXVII started this series originally.
Mechanix: A MTGCast Network
Mechanix is a podcast provided by DeathCompany from the MTGCast Network.  This podcast talks about different mechanics, their rules, impact, cards and etc.
Card Spotlights.
This series isn't really a series but an old feature of MDV.  Many writers have tackled Single Card Strategies and the like.  If you are interested in writing for this series - send the webmaster an email.
Lands: More than Mana.
Greyfell's article series all about... LAND!  Each article focuses on a particular theme of lands and provides a deck or two.
Casual Violence.
Written by none other than Casual Violence, CV takes the rules of Magic: the Gathering and turns it into an article with fun tidbits of the game and more.
