Description of deck by it's author
(quoted):
Being a black player since 1995 when I 1st
started playing MtG I loved the card Lord of the Pit (and yes, he's in
10th!!). It was durring the Kami block that I decided that I wanted to
play Demon Tribal. Thus I set out on my quest to find the pieces that
would create a deck that would bring fear to the Tribal format. The deck
has taken many changes. It's 1st version ran alot of the Kami Demons.
Much to my dismay, it stunk out the room. Then I had an idea. What if I
could use huge demons for low mana cost. That's where the Portal comes
in. Think about it, a 9/9 Pitlord for 3 mana at the end of the opponents
turn... I drool at the thought
While it was tempting for some time to splash a 2nd
color in, I found it to be in my best interest to stay mono Black. For
this, I wanted to make sure that Cabal Coffers wasn't a dead card, and
with Planar Chaos, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth did just that. Now, Coffers
counts it self when tapping for Black, and can tap for black all on it's
own! SCORE!
With the increased mana, it is now much easiser to
keep the field clear without hurting my own creature base. the 8cc for
Reiver Demon doesn't seem so bad when you can easily procude anywhere
from 8-15 mana in a single turn just off of lands.
Yukora was an iffy choice, but who can say no to a 5/5
on turn 2? Not me. I found that he makes your opponent scurry around to
find an answer to him, while you have time to build up mana to play the
real monsters of the deck.
Spirit of the Night was an addition when WotC made all
the creature type changes. Now that he is a Demon Spirit, how could I
not include him? I found that 1 was enough as with Kuro, the 9 casting
cost on a Legend was still pretty steep, no matter how much mana I was
able to play.
One last card I'd like to discuss with you is the
Stronghold Overseer. Amazing! Once he hits the table, any creature
wanting to attack you is powerless vs the amazing control ability of
this guy. the fact that is he the only flying shadow creature makes him
even better. he is, for all intents and purposes unblockable and
pumpable! Elves a problem and can't find Kage, Havoc or Reiver? Drop the
Overseer and watch the elves cry. Goblins whine and Kithiken roll over
and beg for mercy.
I do want to thank Streetz for allowing me to share
this deck with everyone. I hope that you enjoy playing this deck as much
as I have building and testing it. |
