Description of deck by it's author
(quoted):
I initially thought building a deck around
Herald can be quite a challenge, but I found myself drawn to a handful
of cards right away:
New Frontiers: Accelerates mana to 7 quickly AND gives
me more land to steal once Herald comes out. Additional mana
acceleration provided by Sakura and Kodama.
Overgrown Estate: Denies your opponent his lands when the Herald dies,
and provides a handy life boost.
Sylvan Safekeeper: This little guy is golden, protecting your creatures
(especially the Herald) from spot removal. Do not be afraid to use one
of your own lands to protect the Safekeeper. He's really that good in
this deck.
Terravore: With all the land sacrificing going on, this cheap Lhurgoyf
can grow to be quite large. To support this beater further, add a few
saclands.
Crucible of Worlds: I don't want the Estate and Safekeeper to be totally
dependant on Herald. The Crucible allows me to sac my own lands with
less pain.
Once I got this far, I found the deck was nearly full.
I assigned mostly utility spells for the slots leftover:
Mortify/Putrefy for spot removal.
Eladamri's Call gives me 6 virtual copies of Herald.
Eternal Witness to recover whatever spell I happen to need
Panglacial Wurm: there is a lot of library searching in this deck, and I
wanted at least one fattie that isn't on a clock (Herald) or dependant
on having land in grave (Terravore). The Wurm fits nicely.
