Description of deck by it's author
(quoted):
Ever since I saw the equipment, I knew I wanted to make a deck with
them. However, I struggled to make it playable, since it required so
much to succeed. I finally agreed on this version, it's able to stall
long enough to win using the powerful legend. Wrath of God, Purge, and
Akroma's Vengeance provide powerful removal methods as well as a win
condition against the extremely fast Affinity decks. I guess you can
call this the Modern Blue-White Control with an extremely weird win
condition. However, Magic the Gathering is no stranger to extremely
bizarre winning methods. Just last year at the European Nationals, a
Frenchman led his Reanimator deck into a second-place finish. Another
method of winning is the Charbelcher method of today, which is not used
often, but has received some recognition.
After Kaldra is out, there are very few
ways of removing it, but the most effective is the Furnace Dragon, which
is able to remove all three copies of the equipment at once. However,
even if you are crushed by the dragon in the first game, after the
sideboard, a Mana Leak can usually devastate that plan. Other than that,
it is completely safe to use Akroma's Vengeance and Wrath of God with
Kaldra on the field since the Avatar is not affected by any form of
destruction. Good-bye Naturalize and Oxidize! That's right, this deck is
able to have a Balance effect on the white removal spells. However, I'm
not here to tell you the advantages of having the Avatar in play, I'm
here to tell you how to get it out. Use the fetching spells to get the
Shield of Kaldra first, since it renders artifact removal useless. After
that, try to get control of the game by using Akroma's Vengeance and
Wrath of God to keep sweeping the board clean. After a while, your
opponent will be unable to come up with any new threats, and you will
win with an unstoppable creature. When I first made the deck I thought
it definitely would not be good enough for competitive play until I saw
how the deck disassembles competitive decks with its powerful cards,
although it's mostly made for fun. |
