Description of deck by it's author
(quoted):
Now, I usually like to keep my cards under $1,
but there is one vital piece here that’s more expensive - Lin Sivvi,
Defiant Hero. The reason is simply card advantage. She can return your
10 Rebels from your graveyard to your library and search them directly
into play. This can be especially frustrating for your opponent when you
are blocking their 5/5 flying Dragon by returning Defiant Falcons to
play for 5. The Defiant Falcon and Ramosian Lieutenant will both allow
you to search for Lin-Sivvi, which you should do as soon as possible.
The last Rebel is the Jhovall Queen which, though it can’t fly, is a
huge 4/7 that you can use to take out your opponent’s ground troops.
Again, you can search for it and resurrect it with Lin-Sivvi.
Another big theme in this deck is Birds. You want to be
able to block Dragons and most of those fly. Consequently, these little
flyers can help keep you safe for a long time. They also do quite a bit of
damage in the early game before the Dragons appear on the opposing line.
Besides the Defiant Falcons you also have Skyshroud Falcons with
Vigilance, all of which Soraya the Falconer helps to the tune of +1/+1.
Your 12 Birds (including Dragonstalker) are enough to keep your Cloudreach
Cavalry, which summons for 1W, stay 3/3 most of the time.
Dragonstalker, the Bird Soldier, was the original
inspiration for this deck. What better to have in a Dragon Hunter deck
than a flyer with protection from Dragons? Drop a Vulshok Battlegear on
your 3/3 Dragonstalkers and turn them into 6/6 Dragon killers. Since I can
only have 4 of them in a deck, I added Abbey Gargoyles. Their protection
from red keeps them safe from the majority of Dragons. Drop an
Unquestioned Authority on any creature and give it protection from
creatures, making it an ultimate blocker, plus you get to draw a card.
Rashida Scalebane is one of the most useful creatures to
kill off your opponent’s Dragons. Simply tap him to kill an attacking or
blocking Dragon and take its power in life. Or use Reprisal to kill off
any creature with 4 or greater power. Peach Garden Oath is an extremely
effective life gainer, especially for small creature decks. It’s not
unusual for me to add 10 life for W with this card. Fountain of Cho just
lets me get my big creatures into play faster.
I’ve gone through all of the creatures and talked about
their defensive capabilities, so what about offense? How do you win with
this deck? The answer is simply numbers. Put more creatures on the board
than your opponent can block. Eighteen small creatures come out fast and
ten creatures that can be searched for and resurrected mean that you can
easily field too many creatures for a Dragon deck (which needs to
concentrate on mana acceleration) to block.
This deck also does well against other types of big
creature decks. It’s actually one of my favorite decks to play. There’s
nothing in this deck that becomes completely useless if you aren’t playing
against Dragons, however, you may want to keep a sideboard to replace the
Dragonstalkers and Rashida Scalebane in that circumstance. I recommend
Melesse Spirit and Voice of All. Both are flyers, Melesse Spirit having
protection from black and Voice of All having protection from the color of
your choice. If you’d like a few more rebels to search up instead, try
Ballista Squad. Sideboarding a set of Circle of Protection is never a bad
idea in a white deck either.
