When the mana denial is creative. I’ll admit this isn’t my bag, but fortunately I know people who live in said bag. And the creations can be spectacular. You don’t mind losing as much to decks that obviously took a lot of thought and time. Land Equilibrium and Mana Vortex, Natural Affinity and Pyroclasm, Pardic Miner and Lifeline, Army Ants and Groundskeeper, and Awakening (see below, but be warned: this is just for laughs…you can’t drop a land every opponent’s turn, so its best shot is in very small groups). The possibilities are endless, though they typically fall into fragile combo territory, and require difficult rares. If a group can afford cards like these, they’re still counterable by some of the best-known commons in the game. If your group can’t afford cards like these, well, then you don’t have to worry.
