Description of deck by it's author
(quoted):
Hammer-Time Helix is a red/blue counter-burn style deck with a
combo/lock win condition. There are three major players to making this
function toward that goal: Hammer of Bogardan, Time Stretch, and
Spellweaver Helix.
The Helix is a sleeper card thus far, a toy more for casual players,
with a potential I sense will become more profound in the new Extended
come 2004. In this instance, I imprint it with the Hammer and Time
Stretch to achieve an arbitrary time lock and subsequent burn for the
win.
To ensure this set-up prevails, I rely on graveyard dump cards like
Book Burning and Mental Note to get things where I need them to be. If I
should lose a Helix to the grave, Trash for Treasure swaps a throwaway
artifact like Pyrite Spellbomb to recover it.
The tough hurdle is overcoming mana acceleration. Red and blue both
have weaknesses in this area; the only possible solutions come from
Retraced Image, Lair Lands, Chrome Mox and/or Mox Diamond and
Extraplanar Lens without resorting to a splash for green. I chose the
Chrome Mox. |
