Description of deck by it's author
(quoted):
The object of this casual build is to put
charge counters and token creatures on the table as fast as you can
(without the use of Slivers, because it’s been done, done again, and
done some more). Winning is a close second. It’s also a low-budget deck,
so you can sink your cash into fancy tokens – like little wind-up
robots.
The most effective means of doing this comes from a
two-card combo. Myr Incubator and Doubling Season. Thus, the deck is
largely built to defend until you can fire off that combo. Since the
incubator’s ability is increased by the number of artifacts in the deck,
more than half the deck consists of artifacts. If the green man weren’t
vital to the combo, it might well have been 100% artifacts. To accelerate
mana production and make use of the artifact contest, the infamous
Krark-Clan Ironworks is also an important component.
Drop all the low-cost creatures into play as soon as you
can, but don’t let them die right away; save them for more important
defense. Don’t be afraid to get stung a little in the early game. Aether
Vial can help populate the board, allowing many free drops if you choose
not to add too many counters to one of them. Otherwise, they’ll serve as
counter generators, much like the Coretapper – and he can block also.
Not everything is artificial; since there’s some green
mana in the deck, use it. Vinelasher Kudzu will grow into a staunch
defender and a good offensive tool. Broodhatch Nantuko may make opponents
think twice before attacking, since hitting it will only feed the token
machine.
Get Doubling Season into play as soon as possible, even
if you have to blow-up most of your hand to do it. Then most non-land
permanents become significantly more threatening. Every one counter
“Moved” by Power Conduit becomes two. A Clockwork Beetle Aether Vialed
into existence is a free 4/4 creature. Coretap him for free and he’s 6/6.
Finally, pull out that Myr Incubator. Blow up some
Aether Vials and artifact creatures to pay its costs and get it off
immediately. Pull every artifact out of your deck hopefully about 20) and
put down double that in tokens. In testing this deck, the highest number
pieces on the table at one time was 124, at which point my opponent asked
to be destroyed, as the game was being prolonged to make more counters. |
