 Boros
Bravado.
Description of deck by it's author
(quoted):
Combining the best of red and white, this
guild excels at weenie beatdown and simply blowing things to high hell.
The Boros are full of solid weenies such as Boros Recruit, a 1/1 first
striker for R or W mana. The 2/2 Veteran Armorer costs 1W and gives the
rest of your legion +1 toughness, and the Boros Swiftblade is no White
Knight, but he goes incredibly well with Loxodon Warhammer. For 1RRW,
the Flame-Kin Zealot is about as good a four-drop as any weenie deck
could ask for, giving all your creatures +1/+1 and haste for the turn,
and Hunted Dragon is the closest thing to Ball Lightning around.
But the Boros also have as many high-tech expensive toys
as the U.S. Air Force. Firemane Angel is a 3 /4 flier with first strike
for 3RWW that lets you gain one life during your upkeep as long as it’s in
play or in your graveyard, and you can return it from your graveyard to
play for 6RRWW. At 6WWWW, Blazing Archon is tough to deploy. But once you
do, the 5/6 flier prevents other creatures from attacking you. On the
wacky side, the Boros have Warp World and Mindmoil, both of which seem
ripe for breaking as they spill cards from the top of your library into
play or into your hand respectively.
The Boros’ most impressive resource is the ability to
reach out and set someone on fire. Lightning Helix is the best bolt since
lightning bolt itself, Char is Psionic Blast painted red (2R for four
damage to any target and two to you) and you’ve even got burn dripping off
enchantments with Galvanic Arc, which is like strapping the gift of first
strike to a Volcanic Hammer for 2R. Then there’s Lightning Rift-like
Searing Meditation: For 1RW, whenever you gain life you can pay two and
deal two damage to any target.
Keeping it simple, this deck builds on the Boros’ weenie
roots to put a lot of damage on opponents early and finish them with
Flame-Kin, Dragons or a total of 34 points of direct burn. |
