Must Have Theme Contest ...
send your comments to: streetz@magicdeckvortex.com

12/2/03.  Contest entries will be reviewed soon and posted hopefully before 12/15/03.  Thanks for visiting Magic Deck Vortex!

...In an effort to beef up MDV's theme deck selection, this contest will be a very open one.   Your goal to win the contest is to make the best tribal (creature based) theme deck that isn't already on the list of theme decks on MDV.  You can click the icon below to see the list of theme decks on MDV.

You can use any creature type that is legal and to give you an idea of some creature types that I don't have a theme deck for, here's the list:

Abomination Aboroth Advisor Aladdin Albatross Alchemist Ali-Baba Ali-from-Cairo Alligator Ambush-Party Ancestor Ant Antelope Archaeologist Asp Assassin Assembly-Worker Aurochs Avatar Avenger Avizoa Badger Ball-Lightning Bandit Banshee Barishi Basilisk Bat Bear Bee Beeble Behemoth Being Berserker Boar Bodyguard Brother Brownie Brushwagg Bull Bureaucrat Butterfly Camarid Camel Caravan Caribou Carnivore Carriage Carrier Cavalry Cave-People Centaur Cephalid Cheetah Citizen Clamfolk Clone Cobra Cockatrice Constable Cow Crab Crocodile Crusader Dandan Demon Dervish Deserter Devil Devouring-Deep Dinosaur Djinn Dog Doppelganger Dragonfly Drake Drill-Sergeant Eater Eel Effigy Efreet Egg Elder Elephant El-Hajjaj Enchantress Entity Erne Essence Exorcist Fallen Farmer Ferret Fiend Fish Flagbearer Flying-Men Force Fox Frog Frostbeast Fungusaur Gaea's-Avenger Gaea's-Liege Gargoyle Gatekeeper General Ghost Ghoul Giant Goat Gorgon Graveborn Gremlin Guardian Gus Gypsy Hag Harlequin Hell's-Caretaker Heretic Hero Hipparion Hornet Horror Horse Horseman Human Hunter Hyena Illusion Incarnation Infernal-Denizen Inquisitor Island-Fish Jackal Jellyfish Keeper Kelp King Kithkin Kraken Lady-of-Proper-Etiquette Leech Legionnaire Lemure Leper Leviathan Lhurgoyf Lichenthrope Lizard Lord Lurker Lycanthrope Mage Maggot Maiden Mammoth Manticore Mantis Marid Martyr Master Medusa Meerkat Mercenary Merchant Mindsucker Minion Minor Miracle-Worker Mist Mistfolk Mob Mold-Demon Monger Mongoose Monkey Monster Mosquito Mummy Murk-Dwellers Mystic Nameless-Race Narwhal Necrosavant Nekrataal Niall-Silvain Nightstalker Noble Nomad Octopus Ogre Orb Orc Orgg Ouphe Ox Oyster Paladin Peacekeeper Pentavite People-of-the-Woods Phantasm Phelddagrif Phoenix Pig Pikemen Pixie-Queen Plant Poison-Snake Poltergeist Pony Preacher Priest Prism Pyknite Rabbit Raider Ranger Reflection Rhino Robber Roc Rock-Sled Rooster Rukh Sage Salamander Sand Satyr Scavenger Scorpion Scout Serf Shade Shapeshifter Shark Sheep Ship Shyft Sindbad Singing-Tree Sister Slug Smith Sorceress Spawn Speaker Sphinx Sponge Sprite Spuzzem Spy Squire Stangg-Twin Starfish Stone Strider Survivor Swarm Tactician Tarpan Taskmaster Tetravite The-Biggest-Baddest-Nastiest-Scariest-Creature-You'll-Ever-See Thopter Thundermare Tiger Titan Toad Tombspawn Tortoise Tracker Treefolk Troll Turtle Uncle-Istvan Undead Unicorn Vedalken Villain Viper Vulture Walking-Dead War-Rider Warrior Warthog Wasp Wave Whale Whippoorwill Wight Wiitigo Wildebeest Will-o'-the-Wisp Witch Wolverine Wolverine-Pack Wolves-of-the-Hunt Wombat Wood Worm Wraith Wretched Yeti

Here's a more concise list of doable creature types that give you a few more selections to choose from than all of the above:

Archer, assassin, avatar, bear, boar, carrier, centaur, cobra, crab, Cyclops, demon, Djinn, drake, Efreet, elephants, fish, ghosts, human, lizard, monger, monsters, night-stalker, nomad, ogre, Orc, paladin, phantasm, salamander, shades, Shapeshifters, ships, Spellshapers, toads, Treefolk, trolls, unicorn, and vedalken

Not all creature types have enough creatures to make a theme deck, but there are cards which can help you out to fill the gaps.  Mistform Ultimus, for instance, is every creature type.  There are artifacts that generate a creature type of your choice and then there are cards which can be lords of your type (brass herald) as well cards which can boost your particular tribe (like Shared Triumph or Tribal Unity).  Anyway, to the right is a list of cards to help you out in your journey to discovery.

Here is a sample deck list for the contest that would satisfy it's requirements (listed below):

Sample M.H.T. Deck
by John Streetz @ www.magicdeckvortex.com
Colors:
Blue-Green-Red
Deck Type:
THEME: Monsters (with help from Soul Foundry and Ultimus)

4 Flailing Manticore
4 Moss Monster
4 Tidal Kraken
4 Elf Piper
3 Brass Herald
4 Mistform Wakecaster
4 Mana Leak
2 Soul Foundry
2 Spore Frog
4 Birds of Paradise
1 Mistform Ultimus

10 Forest
10 Island
3 Mountain
1 Gaea's Cradle

DECK DESCRIPTION:
Use the Soul Foundry to clone your Birds, Frogs and/or Monsters and go to town once you get the mana out.  Mistform Ultimus fills in the 4th creature gap. Note that there are 6 different cards that help the Monster theme out.  Gaea's Cradle boosts your mana and satisfies the two legend rule along with the Ultimus.  Not the best deck, but it's an attempt at monster.

If you see any cards that are missing from the list to the right, please email the webmaster.  Good luck!  Email you submission(s) to streetz@magicdeckvortex.com.
