12/1/03. A month later and I am finally posting the results.  I apologize for the delay but there are many other facets of the site which I am trying to perfect and evolve in addition to switching servors, which has been a headache for the past three months and is finally resolving this week.  

To the right is the card this deck building contest revolved around.  The goal for the people submitting their decks was to build a deck around Leveler with good playability, focus and creativity.  Overall, I was shocked to see how many options you could fit into a deck for one card.  Some were well put together, others were not.  There were several shining decks, all within the top 10.  Below are the scores.  Before the scores you will find a little insight into some of the decks, a short description of the winning deck by Emerald Night called 'Leveler's Pandemonium', some combos found in the decks and then a few combos that didn't work.  Thank you to everyone who entered.  I look forward to reviewing the MUST HAVE THEME decks from the November deck building contest next.

Before I go into the rest of this overview of the contest, please know I did my best to rate all of the decks.  Many of them were cluttered with too many ideas and I had trouble in a few instances focuses on the intent and the playability of the decks.  I wasn't able to test the decks so the scores reflect my approximation of your deck (or the deck).  I am the only one who reviewed the decks and thus everything is subjective.  I do these contests for three reasons:

• For fun

• For your reference and ability to see other's idea on the Leveler card from MIRRODIN

• To increase the database with good decks and unique ideas that you can develop on your own when playing Magic: the Gathering.

What were the guidelines for entering the contest?

• The deck cannot be more than 60 cards and not less than 60 cards.

• Your deck must use 4 copies of the LEVELER.

• Your deck must use other cards to support the LEVELER to make him part of your win condition.

• You must have a title and short description.  If you don't, you submission will get a -1 penalty.

• You can use cards from any set.

• If a card is restricted in any format, you must restrict that card to a quantity of only one.

• No power nine cards (original Moxes, Black Lotus, Time Walk, Ancestral Recall, and Time Twister)  There is a -5 penalty for using any of these cards.

• The deck can be any number of colors.   If you go the no-color route (using no color spells and only artifacts, then you get +1.5 bonus points.)

• Your deck must have at least one legendary card.  This includes legendary lands, artifacts and/or creatures.  If not, your deck will lose 1 point.

• Feel free to use the combo pages to give you ideas for your deck.

• Try not to copy any deck already on Magic Deck Vortex

• Decks are rated based on the information below.  The rating system has recently changed so you might want to review it again.

• Have fun and be creative

• If you win the contest you get to pick one of the next contest themes and you get to choose the next TOP 30 CARD listing or the next FEATURED CARD.

Suggested Card Interactions

A good half of these were used in the decks with exception to Arc-Slogger and Volrath's Shapeshifter, two I thought for sure would make a deck or two.  The most popular cards from this list include Stifle, Bloodshot Cyclops, Shared Fate, PLatinum Angel and Fling.
