July (2007) Featured Combos.
Last updated 7/23/07 (20/20 Combos, 18 Deck Links, 1 Infinite "combo")

Stormbind - Squee, Goblin Nabob
Squee has always been known for fueling Spellshapers ever since the Masques block.  However, recently Stormbind was reprinted in the Time Spiral block.  And now, you have a new mean to maximize the use of Stormbind thanks to Squee.  It's almost like icing on a cake that they reprinted Squee in Tenth Edition Core Set.
Locket of Yesterdays - Artificer's Intuition - Sensei's Diving Top
With Artificer's Intuition in play, you can search for Locket of Yesterdays.  Then play it and search for three Sensei's Diving Tops.  One Top goes to the graveyard and the other two can be used to play off each other for free up to infinite times.  This will jack up your storm count and then you can use whatever Storm you want to finish off an opponent.  In the deck link, Brainfreeze is the card of choice.  However, Grapeshot works terribly well too.
War's Toll - Nettling Curse and/or Contaminated Bond
Wow!  War's Toll actually has a use!  First step: Enchant your opponent's creatures with Nettling Curse and Contaminated Bond.  Oh, and have the War's Toll in play.  Either wait for an opponent to attack or activate Nettling Curse's ability.  Because of War's Toll, if one creature attacks, all attack.  And thus, all creatures enchanted with either Aura mentioned, will cause the opponent to lose 3 life... for EACH ONE.  That damage will add up quickly and eventually win you a game... with War's Toll!!!
Life from the Loam - Seismic Assault
Everyone knows the power of Life from the Loam as a great means for card advantage, efficient land drops and recursion strategies.  However, when combined with the current version of Land's Edge, Seismic Assault, suddenly Life from the Loam turns into a Gatling gun with the help of Seismic Assault.  Just keep discarding the lands to Seismic to deal the damage, then dredge the Life from the Loam to cast again and keep going with the Assault.
Opposition - Beacon of Creation
Opposition is a great control card but it is dependant on creatures.  There are a number of cards that can fuel your creature count to turn into a tap.  However, Beacon of Creation is especially good.   Not only does it have an affinity for Forests and thus can generate four to eight in most games for just four mana, but it also shuffles back into your library for a possible use once again.  However, you'll probably only need to cast it once to lock down your opponent.
Jaya Ballard - Light of Sanction
Jaya Ballard, one of the hottest cards in Time Spiral is one mean chick.  Why not tame her and use something that prevents her from dealing damage to your own creatures?  Light of Sanction fills that role.  Light of Sanction is like a box of chocolates and a bouquet of roses that'll keep Jaya Ballard nice to you and mean to all of your opponents.  This certainly makes her third ability well worth the mana and the card you have to ditch.  Submitted by Hadrian.
Sphere of Law - Manabarbs
So they finally bring back Manabarbs in 10th Edition, too bad they didn't bring back Sphere of Law.  Here's how the two cards interact.  With both in play, whenever a player taps a land for mana, Manabarbs deals one damage to that player.  However, with Sphere of Law in play, whenever Manabarbs would deal one damage to you, two of that is prevented.  And thus, you can tap all of your lands all day, and Manabarbs won't hurt you.  Even while Furnace of Rath is active!
Wall of Shards - Magus of the Mirror
Wall of Shards is great at keeping your opponent's creatures at bay -- even the large 7/7 bodies.  However, the drawback is all of the life it will give your opponent.  Enter Magus of the Mirror.  Suddenly, when your opponent think they're winning just from a comparison of life totals, say your 18 to their 102 life -- you activate Magus of the Mirror.  Suddenly, you have the upper hand with 102 life and them with 18.  Note that this is even more fun when you have only 1, 2 or 3 life.  Shall I say Lightning Bolt for the finishing touch?  Submitted by YWN.
Darkest Hour - Urborg Shambler
There are all sorts of fun things you can do with Darkest Hour.  I could go on and on about this, but the card I want to highlight today is Urborg Shambler.  If all creatures are black, suddenly all creatures (except for the Shambler) get -1/-1.  And thus, suddenly any creature with a toughness of 1 or less dies.  Seems like fun to me.
Ichorid - Golgari Grave-Troll
Ichorid is a cute little black creature that has terrorized Extended for quite some time.  And then Dredge came along.  Not only does dredge help to put Ichorid into your graveyard for recursion fun, but it also fuels the recursion cost on Ichorid (removing a black card in your graveyard from the game).  Golgari Grave-Troll is ideal for this situation since he has one of the highest Dredge costs (6 cards).
Angel's Grace - Isochron Scepter
Isochron Scepter is the king of abuse when it comes to instants that cost two or less.  Angel's Grace is one of the more recent additions to the list of abused cards.  Imprinting Grace on the Scepter will create a sort of lock that keeps your opponent's from winning and you from dying.  Just give it a try, I'm sure your opponents will admire your genius on the first game and then sideboard in four Naturalizes and four Disenchants for all other games... even if you don't sideboard in casual.  Submitted by mwoods.
Your Combo Here!
You could have your combo featured in this spot right here (not literally, but on a future combo page).  Email the webmaster with any combos you'd like to submit.  Try to make sure your combo works and that there isn't already that combo on any other MDV combo page.  You can always Search Magic Deck Vortex with the new search tool to make sure before submitting it.

I greatly appreciate your efforts to make these combo pages better.  Every once in a while I have a page chock-full of your submitted combos... although I will admit about 75% of all submitted combos are duplicates.

Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir - Mystical Teachings
Expensive tutors are cumbersome when you can only search for instants and cards with flash.  However, with Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir in play, all creature cards you own have flash.  And thus, this two card combination will give you the flexibility to cast Teachings and search out either any instant card in your deck or any creature card.  Now that tutor isn't so cumbersome anymore. Submitted by Aluro.
Fecundity - Empty the Warrens - Skirk Prospector
Here's a neat way to draw lots of cards, play lots of spells and create lots of tokens.  How it works: With Skirk Prospector and Fecundity in play, play a spell or two and then play Empty the Warrens.  Depending on your storm count, you should get several 1/1 red Goblin creature tokens.  Sacrifice the tokens to Skirk Prospector to add some red mana to your mana pool and draw that many cards thanks to Fecundity.  If you are lucky, you'll draw into a bunch of cheap casted spells and another Empty the Warrens.  If you are REALLY lucky you might draw out your entire deck.  Just make sure to keep some of those tokens around for either some defense or some future offense.
Mortuary - Fecundity
I love it when two off-color enchantments work extremely well together.  Say your Llanowar Elves goes to the graveyard, your Fecundity will let you draw it.  This is because Mortuary puts any creature you put into your graveyard from play back on top of your library -- then Fecundity lets you draw a card, which happens to be the card that you just put on top of your library. mortuary.jpg (25488 bytes) fecundity.jpg (11604 bytes)
Skeleton Shard - Chimera's
The Chimera's from Mirage Block are great if you don't mind sacrificing a bunch of cards to make one really big card.  They're kind of like Transformers for cards.  Anyway, why not make better use of the cards and re-use them with cards like Skeletal Shard.  The Shard will give you the ability to bring back one every turn.  Combined with a few cloud keys and suddenly you can have a bunch of big creatures instead of just one.
Momir Vig - Thrumming Stone
This combo is a bit complex, so I'll just quote Chris Millar from www.wizards.com:

Whenever you play a green creature spell, both the ripple ability granted by Thrumming Stone and Momir Vig's Worldly Tutor ability will trigger. Put the ripple on the stack first, followed by Momir's Worldly Tutoring, which will resolve first. Search out a copy of the creature you just played and put it on top of your library. Let the ripple resolve. Play the creature you just searched up. Shampoo your hair. I mean, lather, rinse, and repeat. Basically, every time you play a creature spell, you can also play every copy of that creature that is still in your library.

Easy enough, eh?! *grin*

Mangara of Corondor - Freed from the Real or Pemmin's Aura or Flickerform
Mangara of Corondor is a tricky card that was perhaps designed on purpose to be abused.  You see, since the "Remove me" part of the card is part of the ability and not of the activation, you can use effects that untap it or that remove it from the game temporarily to keep Mangara around to do it again.  Cards like Freed from the Real or Pemmin's Aura will give you the opportunity to untap Mangara to squeeze out several activations in one turn.  Flickerform will allow you to activate the legend and flicker it out so that only your opponent's card is removed from the game -- you get Mangara back.
Retether - Wild Mongrel / Mythic Proportions
Three card combos aren't always efficient, but they can be potent.  In this case, you use Wild Mongrel to discard a bunch of high casting cost (Enchant Creature) Aura's like Mythic Proportions and then follow up with Retether.  Essentially, you can put all of these Auras onto one creature and then attack with a big (hopefully evasive depending on the aura's you threw into your graveyard) creature.  Mythic Proportions is among the better Aura's you can ditch.  The deck link shows off a few.
Teferi's Puzzle Box - Plagiarize
Black always liked to strip opponent's of their hand with an early pair of Dark Ritual and a Mind Twist.  Blue mages like to be a little more tricky.  While Teferi's Puzzle Box is cycling player's hands, cast a timely Plagiarize.  Suddenly the six cards your opponent would draw become a six cards you draw.  Now they have no hand you are a stock full of wonderful cards at your disposal.
Lightning Axe - Chronosavant
A 5/5 in play on turn two?  It can be done -- especially with these two cards.  Play Lightning Axe to ditch the Chronosavant from your hand and then pay two mana (when you have it) to put it into play tapped.  Mind you, you'll have to skip your next turn, but in the early game, one turn isn't that big of a deal... unless of course you are playing an Eternal format.
Did you know...?

To the right and left of this text is something called the MDV Deck Link.  You will only find these link buttons on the combo pages.  When you click on a MDV Deck Link it will take you to a deck related to the combo where you found it.

If the button is to the left of the combo text, this means there is a deck already linked.  If the link is to the right, there is a deck found or that is going to be posted.  Or it is a combo I am currently looking for a deck using it. Mind you, not all decks links are going to center around that particular combo, although most do.

Remember, I strongly encourage you to not copy any deck on MDV, but to use it as a reference or inspiration for your own.  Enjoy the combo pages! ~John Streetz~
