Featured Combos from 2002.

Did you know...?
Did you know the MDV DECK LINK, if located on the left of the description, will take you to a deck using the combo.  Not all decks are centered around that particular combo.  This offers you the quickest way to find a deck to help you out with your own deck list.  If the MDV DECK LINK is to the right this means I am searching for a deck for that combo or I am in the process of adding it to the database.

I encourage you not to copy any deck on Magic Deck Vortex, but to use it as a reference for your own playing style and group.  Thanks for visiting magicdeckvortex.com.

Entomb - Exhume - (Spiritmonger)

Turn one... Entomb Spiritmonger or Tidal Kraken or Silvos, Rogue Elemental.  Turn two - Exhume.  Or, if you are using Dark Ritual or Black Lotus, do it all in one turn!  Fun stuff.  Thanks Tomi for the combo.  When I first saw Entomb... I thought nothing of it.  Now, knowing this combo, I can see why the card is rare.

Dandan - Tidal Warrior
Obviously put.  Dandan is the best two drop in blue.  A 4/1 for for two.  How can you go wrong.  Just Tidal Warrior your opponent's land to an island turn three and attack.  Bounce helps.  If you would like to see my deck using this combo, click here. Pyromancy - Draco

Pyromancy is currently in my DRAGON deck... but of all the cards you could ever want to randomly discard to Pyromancy, I think DRACO is it. 16 damage.  Ouch.  Talk about a turn five kill if you only have Draco in hand.  That is assuming you have atleast burned your opponent down by 4.  Your opponent will never know what hit them.  It is like a TRIX deck without blue!

Magma Mine - Thran Turbine
If you would like to see this combo in the works, check out KOOKUS (my deck).  Magma Mine is a 1 star card but with Thran Turbine to fill your Mine without any land mana from you, you can cast spells at your will and later use the Mine to do some damage.  Did I mention Thran Turbine is one of my most favorite artifact mana generators? magma_mine.jpg (57783 bytes) thran_turbine.jpg (39068 bytes)
Gravepact - Thrulls
This combo is obvious.  If you are lucky enough own 4 Gravepacts you can construct a strong recursion deck using Gravepact, Towers and Thrulls.  Blood Vassal and Blood Pet allow you to use the most of this combo, getting another creature into play or spell and then eliminating more of your opponent's creatures. phyrexian_tower.jpg (11624 bytes) blood_pet.jpg (17240 bytes) grave_pact.jpg (17814 bytes)
Prosperity - Black Vise
Black Vise was restricted for a reason.  This combo is a good reason.  Prosperity for 7... throw down black vise.. and ouch!  If you opponent had 4 cards in hand his/her last turn then they are going to take 7 damage come their upkeep.  Try to watch them sweat as they try to get Palinchron, Spiritmonger, Krosan Beast, and so on out of their hand in one turn.  Fun stuff! black_vise.jpg (13068 bytes) prosperity.jpg (30361 bytes)
Dragon Roost - Mana Flare
Need a way to get around the high cost of Dragon Roost. Mana flare is the answer.  Add some land destruction to limit your opponent's advantage with the card and now you can Pounce around with your 5/5 flying dragon tokens.  Fling would work well in this deck too! dragon_roost.jpg (18353 bytes) mana_flare.jpg (20377 bytes)
Skirk Fire Marshall - Keeper of Kookus - Goblin Marshall
Goblin lackey helps this combo out.  Get out the cards shown to the right and you'll be surprised how quick you can get this 10 combo out.  Burn cards help if you are planning to make a deck out of this one. Skirk Fire Marshall can use his ability from the 1/1 goblin tokens generated by the Goblin Marshal.  BOOM!  10 points to everything clearing the board except for your Keeper of Kookus and Fire Marshal.  Nice! skirk_fire_marshal.jpg (16773 bytes) keeper_of_kookus.jpg (49093 bytes) goblin_marshal.jpg (15915 bytes)
Death Match - Symbiotic Elf or Sengir Autocrat
I plan on making a green - black deck using this wonderful combo.  Other cards to include would be any green or black untargetable creatures like the Nimble Mongoose and Elvish Lookout and so on.  With the Symbiotic Creatures like the Wurm, Elf and Beast you can sack them (controllably with the Death Match) or with the advantage of your opponent trying to rid you of your creatures.  Then BAM!  You drop X Insect tokens into play and throw it back in their face.  I picked up this combo in draft tourneys with Onslaught. death_match.jpg (16645 bytes) symbiotic_elf.jpg (17610 bytes) sengir_autocrat.jpg (17662 bytes)
Wild Mongrel - Exoskeletal Armor
Aside from bounce and black removal, Exoskeletal Armor gives your Mongrel some power.  Okay, so he is 2/2 with out it.  Make him a 10/10 with all of those creature cards in all graveyards.  Since Mongrel is found in G/U Madness decks, you should be able to counter those removal spells with ease. exoskeletal_armor.jpg (19921 bytes) wild_mongrel.jpg (18716 bytes)
Selfless Exorcist - Druid's Call
Exorcisms are suppose to be cool, but the Selfless Excorcist is lame.  Druid's call can change that, though.  Now, each time you eat a creature from any graveyard, you can create squirrel's equal to its power.

Quoted from Inquest, October 2002

Prosperity - Storm Seeker - Cadaverous Bloom
Thanks doctor!  This combo allows you to Cadaverous Bloom for say 10 mana and then Prosperity for say 10 cards and then Bloom for 4 mana and then Storm Seeker for say 10+ damage.  Nice.  It is a little slow to get out and relies on an easily Naturalized enchantment, but hey!  It works!  Thanx, Dr. Breeegz

Energy Field - Yawgmoth's Agenda
Can we say BROKEN?  Energy field states that when a card goes into your graveyard .. you must sacrifice Energy Field.  When a card never goes to your graveyard... nothing but bounce and enchantment destruction can get around your combo.  Well... maybe that is why you should have counterspells ready for your opponent when he/she tries to destroy your combo... But anyway, this is a cool combo.  yawgmoths_agenda.jpg (20151 bytes) energy_field.jpg (10461 bytes)
Natural Affinity - Mob Justice
This is a nice late game finisher.  Turn all your lands into creatures and Justice your opponent for about 12 life.  What's nice about this combo is that it is only 5 total mana.  2G & 1R.  Unless you are playing straight green-red.. this combo will come out of no where.

Solitary Confinement - Oath of Scholars
Need something to fuel your Confinement without having to use your mana pool to draw cards?  Try Oath of Scholars.  It automatically, mana-free, lets you replenish your hand every third turn... or every turn... just as long as you have less cards than your opponent. solitary_confinement.jpg (19515 bytes) oath_of_scholars.jpg (25061 bytes)
Compost - Mind Bend or Alter Reality or Sleight of Mind
Sleight of mind has certainly made its way back into the game with cards like Alter Reality and Crystal Spray and Whim of Volrath.   Compost:  Talk about card advantage against black decks.  Not playing against black - then Alter it for until the end of the game.  Make it white, or blue!  Now you can use Compost's amazing color hosing ability.  Works best, of course, against mono-colored decks. compost.jpg (16519 bytes) sleight_of_mind.jpg (13828 bytes) alter_reality.jpg (18570 bytes)
Book Burning - Stitch Together
Book burning works good in general as just a burn card, but if you want to get your threshold quickly, just do it to yourself and chose to put cards in your graveyard.  Then, after threshold, stitch together for two black mana and get that Rorix or Vesara the Dreadful into play.  Turn three!  Ouch is think is the appropriate thing to say if you are the opponent. stitch_together.jpg (22144 bytes) book_burning.jpg (19293 bytes)
Arcane Laboratory - Sunken Hope
Arcane Lab.. is the staple card for blue control and lockdown.  Using Sunken Hope... you can establish a creature control.  One creature to return... one card per turn.  It really slows down weenie and Stompy decks... almost to a halt.  sunken_hope.jpg (18493 bytes) arcane_laboratory.jpg (21191 bytes)
False Prophet - Mask of the Mimic
No one ever said the False Prophet was original.  He copies the Wrath of God ability and when Halloween comes around who does he dress up as? Why himself, of course!  Of course, when the Prophet dons the Mask of the Mimic, it has the nice side effect of removing all creatures from the game and popping another Prophet into play for insurance. mask_of_the_mimic.jpg (14528 bytes) false_prophet.jpg (14300 bytes)
Natural Affinity - Pyroclasm
Want a Red Armageddon.. try this combo out.   Natural Affinity all lands and then lay down Pyroclasm.  Bye bye all of your lands and your opponent's too!  The trick is to have something like Spidersilk Armor out and protect your lands.  Thanks for the combo JOE!  natural_affinity.jpg (22508 bytes) pyroclasm.jpg (18134 bytes)
Powerstone Minefield - Fervant Charge
Powerstone Minefield's a Sligh stopper, a Serra slower-downer and a Stompy screwer, all in one easy-to-use enchantment.  Problem is, it can grind you to a halt as well.  Negate the Minefield's impact on your attacks with Fervent Charge powerstone_minefield.jpg (24317 bytes) fervent_charge.jpg (23507 bytes)
Tsabo Tavoc - Unnatural Selection
Destroy target legend eh... well I don't like your Krosan Colossus over there... so... hmm.... tap one land.. turn your Beast into a Legend... hmmm.. Tap Tsabo to destroy your legend colossus.  Nice.  I like this combo a lot.  Too bad it is a three color combo. I like mono colored combos personally.  =) tsabo_tavoc.jpg (19069 bytes) unnatural_selection.jpg (23700 bytes)
